Red and tort would be a massive mistake. It pretty much never looks good.

well, there's good tort and bad tort. and then there's bad tort on red. :)

I think with the right tort it can look excellent though. I think I might just go ahead and try it. if it looks shit I can always change it back.

It's a MBV thing. People who like that band are so different to me on many levels.

It seems like one of those things where people will go along with it just because they did it. A bit like tek kurtz, or how people at Offset are fine with something as long as Sonic Youth or Wilco did it first. I wonder if the jazzmaster bridge on a Mustang thing or tort on red would be popular at all if that Belinda girl didn't do them.

I came across this post about the Mastery bridge recently, though the post was made shortly after the bridge was announced. The guy completely misses the point and goes for the 'it must be good if SY use it' angle. See also 'Nels has one on his jazzmaster...'

Thurston and Lee don't find it useless.

Saying all that, I sort of like this one. Though it's quite close to Fiesta red than CAR. (I'd still rather it be black or white to have vintage tort like that, though).

^right, sometimes it really can look good. vintage tort certainly helps.

@latlat
yeah dude, I was thinking about that too. I was thinking just like that but with elite knobs.

@noire
I know right? but that guitar is one of the few exceptions to red and tort. unfortunately, most of the time it looks pretty bad. red tort looks awful on red. it's better to err on the side of brown but there's still something not right about it. it's a very delicate balance.

pretty much everything has been discussed about these guitars but my opinions are...

- pickups: I like. people say these are strat pickups. well, I like strat pickups so that's not really a problem. but also, they sound nothing like strat pickups. people say they're not as "mellow" as real jazzmaster pickups. but really now, why would I want a "mellow" pickup? I'm trying to rock here people.
- pots & switches: are actually pretty bad. partly fender japan and partly the jazzmaster design. in general they all feel cheap and flimsy. the rhythm section is retarted. the volume is linear and the tone knob is 50k. the switch is like reece or someone was talking about earlier, lightest bump and it flicks back to the center position.
- the craftsmanship: what's up with the body edge-routing? it's really poorly done. it's not properly smoothed out at all. it's like they took it straight from the CNC and slapped some paint on it.
- the shielding: excellent. this is one of the quietest single coil guitars I've ever played.
- everything is metric: FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU

I like tort on Fiesta but not CAR, but it's your world who cares what everyone else says.

lol, I almost kept it for myself when I saw it in person.

For the two days I had it in my possession I found myself using the neck pickup the most.
