Maybe so for some people but for me tort is what makes jazzmasters/jaguars, anything else just looks unnatural, plain and strat like (which also looks best with tort I think).James wrote:It seems like one of those things where people will go along with it just because they did it. A bit like tek kurtz, or how people at Offset are fine with something as long as Sonic Youth or Wilco did it first. I wonder if the jazzmaster bridge on a Mustang thing or tort on red would be popular at all if that Belinda girl didn't do them.Mike wrote:It's a MBV thing. People who like that band are so different to me on many levels.James wrote:Red and tort would be a massive mistake. It pretty much never looks good.
Hello little Jazzmaster

^What he said. I don't even like MBV, and am pretty sure I had my tort on CAR JM before I even saw that guitar. White Jazzmaster pickguards look sooooo cheap.

more impressions on the jazzmaster....
I can really see how leo was going for a gibson like tone with this guitar. it's got to be one of the fattest, heaviest sounding fender guitars (a bass VI is probably a bit heavier ). while it still retains the clarity and bite fender is known for. it's weird that it didn't catch on in the 70s because it really does that kind of ballsy rock stuff very well. it must have just been because the styling was so dated looking.
the trem system is excellent. it's completely solid. stays in tune perfectly. not anywhere near as fussy as the mustang trem. it's operates very smoothly and the range of action is near idiot proof; allowing one to easily and accurately apply musical bends and shimmers.
I see why all these guys sling these things low. They're kind kind of bulky and not very comfortable strapped high like you can do with a lot of guitars.

+1 to all.Reece wrote:bollocks to you both.
black guard, black pup covers and black knobs. lovely.
at least it wouldn't be red tort on red again. i love mbv but that's a horrible combination on any guitar.

what are you all on about. this is not an SG with a transparent red finish. it's Candy Apple Red. metallic finishes + black look scumbag as hell. always. the only options I'm considering are,
- keep it the way it is
- black covers and knobs
- tort. brown tort. ... obviously.
