Fender guitars released in one colour

Post by James »

It seems that Fender have got lazier than the recent period of releasing things in Sunburst, Black, White and Red and for quite a few guitars seem to only bother releasing them in one colour. Browsing around the Fender site a lot of guitars only come in two colours, typically one solid colour and sunburst.

Ignoring artist models (like the J Mascis Jazzmaster) which Fender or Squier guitars only come (or came) in one colour?

(I'm hotlinking all of these images so some may not work)

Right now the Jaguar HH only comes in black if you ignore the extra Fender Japan finishes

The baritone version only came in black anywhere.

The Jaguar Baritone (and similarly the near identical 'Bottom Master') only came in sunburst.

The new Squier 62 custom only comes in Sunburst

The Squier Classic Vibe thinline only comes in 'natural maple', near walnut colour.

Actually it's quite a theme with the classic vibe series, and I'll admit there are enough cool models to make up for it, but to add a few more.

51 P Bass only in Lake Placid Blue, the 60s one Mike has only in Sonic Blue and the Jazz Bass only in white. I think the humbuckered P Bass is one colour also.

I recall pat selling a red baritone jag a few months back. They also offer a few different finishes on the hh jag instead of black (not just fender japan). I don't think they offer/produce the black finish anymore.

The red baritone is a refin. Anything not sunburst is.

They do Gun Metal Red and a similarly named blue finish on the HH Jag but according to the Fender site the only colour they do right now is black. I remember a close-out deal on the red ones so perhaps they discontinued those colours.

The Squier Jazz Bass one really annoys me.

I suppose for weirdness the CV 50's Strat is worth a mention too. Whilst it comes in three different colours (Olympic White, 2-Colour Sunburst and Lake Placid Blue) the neck on the LPB one isn't tinted, although it is just as glossy as the other two which is odd. It smacks of someone making a mistake, then not being bothered to turn on the computer again to correct it.

Also, James, is 2-Colour Sunburst any different from Two-Tone sunburst?

EDIT: I've had a look around, and it seems that the burst used on American Fenders is called 2-Colour Sunburst too. Did they not used to call it Two-Tone or am I going mad? Obviously this isn't very important, but still.

Ah.

The Squier site says 'Natural Maple' but I guess they mean it's a natural finish with a maple fretboard. Somebody didn't think that one through.

I haven't a clue. I think on the colour chart I did them as the same colour.

Haha, that's terrific. I wonder how long it'll take them to notice.

That's the way all their colours are listed on the site. Not even a comma to seperate the body colour from the neck.

That's really annoying AND incredibly misleading to those who aren't familiar with the intricacies of guitars yet.
