Mustang, Artec Rails, Tusq, white knobs, new electrics.

rocker101 - yup, as has been mentioned I got the knobs from Banzai in Germany... and as been mentioned the postage is about 7 euros.. so not worth buying on their own... if I do another order from there in the future, I'll let people know and I'll add them on to my order if people want some... probably won't be doing that for a while though.

Will - I got the saddles from the US, they sell mustang springs there too, I wouldn't say they sound mellower the opposite if anything.... brightness and sustain.

Mike, yeah I'm not totally convinced by the white knob look either... I'll keep them on for a while though and see if they stick... if not I'll swap them back.... I'm still blown away by how good these pickups sound though, they are great....not just great for the money.

I gave my Mustang some tlc last night... I've been meaning to do a few things to it since I got it but hadn't got round to it yet.

Firstly the new springs for the vibrato made a massive difference ... the vibrato is so much smoother to use and the guitar returns to tune every time. 100% improvement for a few quid.

The other thing that's always bothered me about Mustangs is the lack of individual height adjustment on the bridge saddles, I ended up getting a set of 'tusq' saddles, these are great ... improvement on sustain and proper height adjustment, they are white too.



I know it's probably frowned upon by Fender purists but for the type of music I play the single coils just weren't doing it for me..... so out with those and in with some artec rail humbuckers, these sound so good for the pittance that I paid for them £11.35 each of ebay..



I also sorted the pretty crappy electrics, out with the worn out little 250k pots and in with the full sized 500k full shaft an 'orange drop' capacitor, a new high quality jack socket.



a set of sexy white knobs and we are done!

i agree with the mics and pots that comes with the guitar is useless for rock playing guitarists!
no sustain and no power, and no fat sound, a thin sound...

youre mustang looks like kurts that he used in 93-94 on live shows..
only that he had a seymour duncan double humbucker in bridge mode...

i can say one thing that will make you happy, it looks better with a single-humbucker mic in both bride and neck pos. just like you installed!

I was amazed at the difference of the tusq saddles when I put them on one of my guitars, I hate how they are too skinny and slide around though. Nice stang, even though it has buckers, haha

thanks. yeah... it's a bit 'teh kurdz' lol... ... I didn't really want to start gouging out the body to put a full sized humbucker in it and I'm glad I didn't, I never heard the stock pickups for this because when I bought it someone had already changed them for 'Rio Grande' strat pickups ....but I really disliked those! I only paid $350 dollars for it when the pound was really strong, so I got it for about £180.. so still a massive bargain even with me spending a bit of money on it.

The only problem is I really love it now and it's making me want a Dakota Red '65 too.

yeah it's a bit odd them not being the same width as the originals.. I don't really find they slide around though ... with a good strumming they seem to kind of squash up towards the middle a bit and then stay there.
