Boss Digital Delays

I've got about Â£100 to spend, wanna have it out on the eBay shizzle, been fancying a Boss digital delay. Used to want a DD-7 but now it's all about the straight up digital delays, and narrowed it down to:

DD-5
DD-3
RV-3 (this is because at the same time I'm sick of the Behringer Reverb, it's ok but not amazing, and need something as an alternative to the spring reverb on the Blues Junior I will buy soon)

What do you guys think? The RV-3 is particularly difficult to really 'hear' more of on YouTube, and what's there it's hard to tell.

I'm holding onto the Behringer VD400 cos it's a lovely little analog thing, but this is about the pure digital, big Interpol fan hence the DD-5 and DD-3s. Jonny Greenwood obtains backing up the RV-3 corner.

I love my DD3, and I managed to get it second hand for about Â£50 (thanks Progrockabuse). My bandmate has a DD7 though and I think it may be worth the extra cash if you can find one.

Why the DD7 then? I'm kinda a bit weird bout things, I don't like having pedals with features I don't use, and half the stuff on DD7 I wouldn't use (I don't think). But if it's normal digital delay is really the same standard as the others mentioned, worth a look.

Any reason you are definitely choosing a Boss?
Not that I have anything against them, but I was looking for a straight forward digital delay a couple of years ago and went for the Guyatone MD-3 over the DD-3.
Size and sound are just great.

The normal delay function seems exactly the same, but the hold function is a lot more useful on the DD7 than the DD3, in my opinion. I think it might have reverse delay as well but I can't remember.

What I love bout Boss delays, more so than the Guyatone is there's this like typical digital-deadness to it. I got the bargain Behringer for when you want that natural delay sound, but with the Boss you just get this absolute delay - I mean listen to half of Interpol's stuff and the delay in it, it's just so perfectly digital sounding.

Which is partially why I see the DD7's analog mode, though nice sounding, to be inconsequential.

The DD5 has reverse, which is part of why I wanted it more than a DD3 but obviously they're harder to get than DD3s.

Thanks for the other digital delay suggestion though, if there are any more I've missed - just pure digital delay.

DD5 is great, it gets a lot of hype because you can't find them easily anymore. To me, the draw to a dd5 is the external tap tempo that is missing on the dd6. The dd7 has this too and some other great features and a looper but if you don't want them just get a dd5 if you can find one.
DD3s are great too. It was actually my first delay pedal. I had it for a few days then exchanged it for a pitchblack because I had no idea what to do with delay

I have a DD5, bought it just before the DD6 was released so prolly had it about 7-8 years now. Does everything i need, slapback , reverse, long delays etc. Tough little pedal & doesn't take up a lot of space.

I also have an old DOD PDS delay, very nice slightly warmer than the Boss but has a couple issues now unfortunately, been meaning to take it to a pedal repair shop for ages.

Also check out the Line 6 & Digitech delays & maybe the MXR Carbon Copy although i think the MXR is supposed to be a bit less digital & warmer sounding.

I owned a bunch of Boss delays in the past; DD-3, DD-5, DD-20 Giga Delay.

The DD-5 was my favourite by a long shot.

Pros
- Small, well built
- External Tap Tempo via a small pedal is ace, can tap when pedal is in bypass
- Good delay sound

Cons
- Reverse can't go 100% wet

The DD-3 I found a bit limited (definitely for the price you can get more featured delays), and the DD-20 was just a bit overkill plus a bit of a pain to use the presets and stuff (although it is super powerful and has a good looper).

for the $150 they go for you'd be better off finding a dd5 of similar.
