Strings breaking when tuning up
This just happened to me. I put a new set of strings on the Jag-stang for a gig tonight, tuned it up, left it overnight, tuned again today, and the small e-string broke when tuning it up (with a tuner).
Has anyone ever went to a store and asked for the string to be replaced for free? Why not? How did you get on etc.

This happens to me when I am stretching my strings, I tend to break the high e right at the bridge. never during play, only at the tuning/stretching stage. I've thought about ordering a bunch of just .10s to compensate.

I am assuming you are breaking strings at the bridge?
Its either the saddles or the tailpiece (at the point where the ball end is held). Something is too sharp and as the string stretches out, it's like rubbing it across a blade. Snap!
The jagstang has Mustang saddles which aren't usually problematic. I'd think that it could be a sharp edge right where the string wraps around the tailpice. If the winding after the ball end falls right there, it could be a weak point.

Fucks sakes Paul, they're like 75p each. Sometimes they break (if you're a n00b) - just go in and buy one.BacchusPaul wrote:Has anyone ever went to a store and asked for the string to be replaced for free? Why not? How did you get on etc.

I know (well they're £1.00 here, but anyway), it's more the frustration of having to pay for something twice. Why should I?benecol wrote:Fucks sakes Paul, they're like 75p each. I doubt very much that it was the guitars fault, although I did take the bridge entirely apart and clean it wit WD-40 before restringing.
