Hi Guys & Gals,
I currently play through a stock 65 Fender DRRI, a strat w/ cs69s, and a tele. I've been trying to nail some Coldplayish tones but I feel the amp can get way too ice picky or be too muddled if you turn up the bass a little. I know Johnny Buckland plays through a Deville and Twin but can I get near this sound or am I playing the wrong guitar / amp combo? Would something like the Deville suit me better? I could possibly get a Twin cheaper on Craigs so that is doable too. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

On either side ? Normal or Reverb? I usually plug in to 1 on both.

The second input of either channel on the DRRI -- and many other Fender amps of similar panel design -- is for guitars with hotter pickups. Using input 2 will most likely give you a bit more clarity.

The best way to get Coldplay tones is to be really shit. Once you've got the first bit nailed, kill yourself.

i think you needs one of those jackets.
and you need to have no soul.
you also need to be on fire.
and screaming.
burn.
is there actually anything different about coldplay guitar tones at all? i haven't listened to a coldplay song in about four years but i can't remember much other than generic compressed fender clean tone.

Almost 3 (THREE) hrs. before the Coldplay haet came out. I would have bet it would've been more like 1 minutes.

I didn't actually think it was possible for somebody to actually "like" Coldplay. I thought the whole point was that you hear it by accident and say "Yeah, that wasn't as bad as a million children screaming in pain, thought it also wasn't as exciting, so... I dunno".

Hypothetical question:
You get to brutally massacre all of the members of either Coldplay or U2 without repercussions.
What do you do?
