It doesn't really help them decide which threads interest them enough to read on limited browsing time. Whereas if they see the same threads but the titles

It's much easier. Everyone's a winner. In the pub it doesn't matter but in the knowledge sections it's best to keep things reasonably easy to browse so that people can get the most from them. Don't be a prick about it.

Yeah, well, I'd actually agree with you completely were you not completely wrong. D'addario's have pretty much become the industry standard. All guitar shops I've seen restring their sample guitars with D'addarios, and they come as standard on Fenders, I believe? Not sure about Gibsons, but it wouldn't surprise me if pretty much all of the major guitar manufacturers now ship their guitars with D'addario strings.
The artist endorsee list on the back of Ernie Balls reads like a litany of embarrassment. Slash? He can hardly even play (no, really, he's a really bad guitarist in real). They snap more often than even Rotosounds.
guitarist that i like that uses ernie ball is:
paul gilbert
a perfect circle
collective soul
john petrucci/ dream theater
Dear.

Dear.

I do not have a brand because I'm not full of shit; they're pretty much all the same.

These on all my guitars, I played D'addario's for a long time and they just kept getting destroyed by my picking. The ernie balls dont, so i use them.Thom wrote: On my Strat and Jag-Stang I use:

There are plenty of guitarists that use ernie ball strings that I like, Jack white, jimmy page, deftones, omar rodriguez lopez, matt bellamy, troy van leeuwen, the fall of troy, eagles of death metal, the smashing pumpkins, and thrice. But i dont use them just because those people do. I use them because I like them. does it matter to your what strings people use to the point where your going to walk into a venue and see a band using ernie ball stuff and walk out? Come on, who gives a shit who gives a fuck.

Alot of people making a point to look like they don't give a fuck in this thread ROLF
No brands have ever broken or offended my ears on a well set up guitar. I think Fenders were the least bright, and the difference between D'addarios and Ernies were that Ernies seemed a bit easier to fret and bend.
I once used a set of Rotosound stainless steels and they were the worst strings I've ever used - had loads of drag and felt rough. Will avoid Rotosounds from now on - yeah yeah you get a second e string and all that bollocks but if any strings break it's probably a wider issue not the fucking string.

haha yeah, rotosounds ! don't see them too often, i used them for a while on bass, the sheehan ones, but they are fucking ROUGH on your fretboard. roughest bass strings ever i believe.BacchusPaul wrote:I like Rotosounds and d'Addario's.
I wouldn't get too caught up in what the industry standard is or anything like that. Ernie Ball were the industry standard. It probably has more to do with things that happen in board rooms than anything else.

What the fuck is wrong with you people. Who cares who uses what?

I must say, i could'nt care less either. Personally i like Rotosound or d'addario as i found they are reliable, consistent and they sell them round the corner. On the bass i use 'Fat Boys' coz they are £10 a set, thats my criteria met lolz.
Jaco used them, and he had to apply epoxy to the fretboard every so often because he said they eat it up.kim wrote:haha yeah, rotosounds ! don't see them too often, i used them for a while on bass, the sheehan ones, but they are fucking ROUGH on your fretboard. roughest bass strings ever i believe.
I like Rotosounds because they give you a free 'e' string, and I like the bright brash sound they give when new, and they're nice and grippy.

I buy D'Addarios because the guitar store closest to me always has 11's with a wound third in stock.
I know exactly where they are in the rack. I walk into the guitar store, lock on to the stings, pay for them and GTFO.
I'm in no way adverse to trying other brands out nor am I saying D'Addarios are the best strings out there. I'm just not particularly interested in shopping them around. I know what works for me, I know I can always get these so I do.

yeah i loved that too, good grip and all, i loved the feel of the strings but the price and the sound they made on the fretboard when the amp wasn't on was like sanding the fretboard or something. that's why i like those fender nickelplated steels so much. 105-50 perfect gauge, cheap and a warm yet clear sound.
