looks original to me.

Mage pointed out to me out that the older necks had veneer fretboards. plus the back looks pretty well worn. if its a reissue then the guy played that thing into the ground. decal looks period correct also
yes, thats clark...like the candybar...

right. it's not so much that the old ones had veneer fretboards but that new ones don't have veneer fretboards, they're all slab. so if you see a veneer fretboard you can assume it's not a reissue.

Well cool. I'm not personally interested in the neck so if any of y'all want to jump on it go ahead and jump on it.

That thing went fast.

Well worth the money he was asking. Bet he is rethinking his sales price right about now.

I've come to the conclusion that I pretty much don't like the veneer fretboard. It means that somebody who really knows what they're doing needs to work on the frets, if that's an issue. A hack like me can ruin one of those veneer'd fretboards really, really quickly.

What is a veneer fretboard exactly? I was looking at my mustang neck, which is a reissue, and it looks like it's a veneer fretboard? It's definately not flat where it joins the maple of the neck, there is a curve:

I'm pretty sure that this is considered the slab. The veneer'd necks that have been posted have much thinner fretboards. I don't know the factory specs for either thickness but it's a pretty substantial difference.

okay. I noticed the veneer boards looked thinner, but then the slab boards looked a lot thicker and flat so i was a bit unsure.

yeah, I was wondering about this recently too. the MIJ necks are somewhat veneer-ish but they're just not as thin as the vintage ones.
