Replacement tuners for CIJ Jaguar 66RI
after a fruitless endeavor in vintage style kluson replacement for my little e on my jaguar, i've decided to just replace them all.
does anyone know the specifics for replacing them? different bushings, etc. anyone have any recommendations for a direct swap?
i've been looking at these:
GFS Wilkinson Kluson style
GFS Kluson style
they say for strats and teles, so i'd assume they won't fit. aside from buying fender replacements, any suggestions?
cheers dudes.
(ps - when i do replace them, i'll be doing a side by side photo comparison between it and the vista jagmaster. FYI.)

i saw that too, but it says right in the descritption:
to be honest, i'll probably just get the wilkinsons. do not want white buttons on my faux-vintage jag with bright red tort. These are great machines- I've used them on everything from cheapo knock-offs to genuine USA guitars, and they're terrifically smooth. These have SPLIT Shafts exactly like vintage fender tuners! This is a great way to get to vintage look with modern stability and smoothness...

thanks for inputs, y'all.
won some kluson's on ebay yesterday for like 35 bucks.
Klusons
will probably snag a set of those wilkinsons for my strat, though.

I've just put a set of Klusons on my strat, and would recommend them every time; had some Wilkinsons on my SG for a while, and these are definitely a cut above. The only thing you'll find is that they rattle a little in the collets: that's because MIJ guitars will have metric fittings and Klusons are imperial. Since I use the trem all the time, I wanted tuning stability to be as solid as possible, so I pushed the old collets out, reamed out the holes a touch with a drill bit (just by hand, using it like a file) then put the new ones in. By twatting them repeatedly with a child's wooden block. Be aware that while this is OK on a wooden headstock, on a painted headstock it would wreak havoc.

yes, they are my favorite as well. I just sold a set to stewart.benecol wrote:I've just put a set of Klusons on my strat, and would recommend them every time
it's worth noting that Kluson is in fact no longer extant. WD Music now owns the Kluson name and has those manufactured. they're still not "vintage correct" exactly. the size of them is not quite right and you can see the plastic washer around the shaft inside the cover. they're probably the closest to vintage that's available though.
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...
