pickup size/spacing for a Squier Supersonic?
Does anybody know what type of pickups are needed for a Supersonic, traditional or f-spaced? The bridge pickup in mine was replaced when I got it, and was always kind of wonky and now it's output has dropped to about 5% of what it was, if I REALLY crank my amp it puts out at a small level, and since I can switch pickups with the switch the guy at the guitar store told me that it was actually switching then it was the pickup itself and not the switch, so I'm looking to replace the pickups and wasn't sure which to go with. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dusty
Thanks,
Dusty
all kidding aside, this is your supersonic right? which pickup is the bum one ?
the angled one (should be) F spaced. the straight one isn't F spaced.
so there isn't a good answer to your poll question. its both.
i cant remember on my supersonic because i had solid covers over them for so long but im 95% sure that the stock bridge Pickup in it wasn't F spaced. it was just a regular old humbucker.
for all i know it could actually have been F spaced just and be the same exact one they put in the jag-stang in the same factory at the time ....

Someone just clarified some shit that needed to be clarified, but wasn't clarified in the start.hotrodperlmutter wrote:don't care. i said that's what i voted because it's a fender guitar. not because all fenders are f-spaced.James wrote:Not all Fenders are F-spaced.hotrodperlmutter wrote:i voted f-spaced, being it's a fender guitar.
I removed the poll because this is something that either is or isn't a certain measurement. It's not an opinion.
To find out you just need to measure the distance between the low and high E pole pieces, but considering the pickup is at an angle you may also wish to measure the distance across the strings at the location of the pickup. It's an easy thing to find out but from memory F spaced is 43mm and Gibson/standard spaced is 40 or 41mm. It sounds fairly close but whenever I've measured it the answer has been as clear as black or white.
Although in this case you really should look if there is a problem elsewhere with the wiring before assuming a faulty pickup and replacing it. Even if you want to replace it regardless you should check for a problem as you'll still have it with a new pickup if that is the case.
