Yet another How soon is now question.

Post by IroniaSudby »

Hey shortscale.

Basically ive kind of challenged myself to get the intro to How soon is now as
close as i can get to the studio version. Not exactly, but at least make it sound decent.

Now ive recorded a little test demo. What ive run into is this. The guitar picking is just
way to prevalent, knocking the tremolo effect/wall of sound thing back. I thought the
treble was to high, but that wasn't really it. Anyway can i somehow get away with lowering this
picking noise?

Keep in mind im doing this on a shite computer mic, but it dosent come out that bad how
i set it up. Super Indie Amirite?

Another question would be the settings to set on my tremolo on my fender Amp.

Thanks Shortscale, sorry for yet another How to do this song question, but if anyone can
help out. Its you guys.

Compression can smooth out your pick attack and take care of those high peaks

Lots of reverb as well. You want the un-tremoloed sound to be just indistinct, tonal noise.

+1 on compression
I would have given up already if it wasn't for the impending revolution!

I was just fucking around trying to get it as well and I don't think you need any compression at all. just near 100% wet reverb going into the tremolo.
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...

Really good video. I like how you've deconstructed it & made it accessible to people who don't necessarily have tonnes to spend on gear.

I remember someone posting this on another forum in response to the same question a while back (quite a different approach!:
