Epiphone Valve Senrior & Junior Hot Rod

Post by Haze »

Did these just pop up or did they sneak under my radar???

Valve JR "Hot Rod"

These Valve JR's sound alright on their own [most people swear you have to mod them] but the gain control seems a bit useless since it will break up at bedroom levels as it is. Reverb is always a nice feature as well. Just a little bit more moneys for built in reverb? yes please

Very impressive. If it sounds anything like the stock Valve JR does I'd be interested in checking these out. Master volume, gain, treble, mid, bass and presence controls will make for great tone shaping. Also the Tube-driven reverb is a great plus too. Comes in at 20 watts and will work with any cab. Foot switching would be nice but i think its a great package. Hopefully they sound amazing.
[also available in a 1x12 combo]

All in all the Valve Senior looks like a great buy. I would buy one over a v55 any day. The JR Hot Rod also looks like a shoe-in, for a little more money you might as well get the extra feature

HO LEE SHIT

I am gonna have to get a Valve Senior.

Btw, I dunno where your bedroom is, but I can't dime my Valve Jr without my neighbours phoning the police. 5W of tube power is still fucking loud.

I remember the Senior from NAMM coverage, hadn't seen the Hot Rod yet.

No indication of if it's a spring verb or digital. The extra valve makes me think spring, but it could easily be for the gain stage instead. It's impressive that it also can be used as a reverb unit for another amp - good thinking on their part to steal some of Fender's mojo.

NO TONE CONTROL FAIL.

Thats always been the 'charm' of the VJRs. Supposed to have pure tube mojo or something :?

Be interesting to compare the V55HD with it.. I'm pretty confident the Valve sr would own it's overdrive, but the V55 has great clean channel with more head room.

Also, ITS SPRING REVEBER.

Why bring up the V55 unless you've played both?

the V55 has a gorgeous clean channel, I've played a Valve Jnr and if this is anything like it, then it's not going to be anywhere near as nice sounding clean.

+1

I've owned a Valve Jr and a V55. Though you cant really compare the clean on these, because the Valve Jr, simply doesn't have a clean sound, it breaks up at about 9 O'clock. V55 is gorgeous clean, and for dirt I have pedals.

Only problem I've had with the Bugera is finding a 1x12 big enough for it..

That video review has left me VERY unimpressed.
This might have to do with the shit out of tune playing and bad recording but it seemed none of the settings really changed much and the amp's basic voicing sounded pretty unappealing to me.

"Top of the mountain"? Um... OK...

+1, sounds not like a "must-have". I don't think it's the recording quality though.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has anyone actually played through a Valve Senior yet? I've been looking around, and no one seems to have it in stock. The reviews I've read have been positive, except that some people don't like the reverb. I was thinking about getting a Blues Jr., but I'm trying to hold out until I can A/B it against one of these.
