would go with the muff- there are other better options though
I would have given up already if it wasn't for the impending revolution!

I would search Ebay and the likes for a black Russian Big Muff. I got mine for 35 quid off Ebay and its the best fuzz pedal i own, closely followed by my new purchase, the tone wicker one. Steer clear of the Nano Muff though. I was given it as a gift and its only good for boosting the treble when i'm using either muff. It just hurts my ears on its own.

Matt wrote:Big Muff is good for fuzz but it doesn't do very good for "crisp" sounding palm muting. It sounds muffled and jumbled up. I don't know how to better explain that. otherwise it's a great pedal. I am referring to the American model as I have never played the Russian one.

yeah i agree with that

try to test one of those new big muffs with tone wicker, i'm really interested in those too. used to have a US big muff, sounds typical and awesome on its own, in a band setting you fall out of the mix it turns into a bunch of hissy fuzz or fuzzy hiss lol i think it's to do with the mids scooping too, on the tone wicker big muff you can get more mids out of it. the boss one sounds less organic and 'better lined' ..if that makes sense. less character in my opinion, there's plenty of big muffs to choose from, big ones, small ones, cheap ones, pricey ones, clones, so it's hard to say what a big muff sounds like. try as many as you can.

fyi, i know that last bit could sound confusing but i had no perv talk intentions. :P

yeah...you can get some bargains on the russian muff. I paid £30 for mine & it amply fills my fuzz needs. Tonally, I prefer it to the NYCs & I've never cared much for those Boss fuzzes at all. Why are you limiting yourself to these 2 options though?

I dunno. I'm not really, I just wanted to know which of the two were best, and I just said that they were my only options because I only wanted to know about the two. But I was being picky and I realise there are better.

neither are 'best' just depends what you expect from a fuzz. i get headaches from the cheer amount of fuzzes to choose from. finding 'that one' is like searching for a needle in a haystack. trial and error. you're gonna get a fuzz, a month later you're gonna look for a different one, the month after that you're gonna replace with another one...there's no escaping the endless fuzz search. face it ! haha.

i'm stuck in it again now too. i regret selling my fulltone ultimate octave, the fuzz alone was not what i wanted but the octave up on it was really fucking good. i got rid of my boss oc2 sub octave..now i think 'fuuuuck, blue box sounds nice with the sub, what if i could add that natural sounding sub octave of that boss to the fuzz i am still looking for ?' ..headache.
i can get fuzz with a sub octave either from a blue box or tgd paired with behringer pitch shifter, but now i realise it sounds fucking weird as fuck, i love it, but it's instant noisy and sometimes you just want something more natural sounding.

someone here told me about the muffs stomp under foot makes, maybe check those too ? stomp under foot

what these two ^ just said. welcome to the world of fuzz. there are many different variations. some compliment different playing styles better than others. the boss/behringer fuzz is not "shit", it's just not what some players find useful. it has it's place though.
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...
