Is Guitar Reranch usually hard to get ahold of?
I've been trying to get through to them, but their voice mail is always full. I tried an email, but got no response. So I tried again just a bit ago, and included the entire order I wanted to place. I want to send them a check for the amount (which their site says is OK to do), but I need to confirm their address and who to make the check out to.
Here's what I sent them via email - do you guys think I'll have any problems? Can anyone confirm their address and who the check should be made out to? If so, I'd appreciate it!

Hello,
As per your website, I'd like to place an order:
TO ORDER PRODUCTS
Order online with Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express. Orders received before 3:00 pm are shipped that day. Customers wishing to pay by check or money order can enter their order by phone or email at guitars@flash.net. Your order will be assembled upon receipt of the order and shipped upon receipt of your payment.
I will send the payment via either money order or check as soon as I can confirm two things - the name to have the check / money order made out to, and the address to send it to. I believe the following is probably correct, but I would like to confirm this please:
Guitar Reranch
605 Pebble Creek
Garland, Texas 75040
972-495-2074
I have tried on several occasions to contact you via telephone, but your voice mailbox is always full. I have also tried to email once before - hopefully this time it will work. Here is the order I am placing; again, I will send payment in the amount of $92.15 just as soon as I can confirm the payee and address information.

From what I hear they are slow. They also do things like not respond to emails or update the status of your order after you've sent payment, then suddenly the stuff arrives on your door. I think it's managed in a way where if they're on holiday or whatever it's not mentioned on the site, you'll hear about it on some guitar forum somewhere perhaps and your email gets replied to when they get back.
All of that is based only on what I've read about experiences on other forums. The general impression is they're reliable when it comes to getting you the correct order, and responding to questions but they're very inconsistent with how long anything takes.

Shabba.
The only times I've tried to order from them I have had extreme difficulties as well! I'd say check and see if stewmac has whatever you're looking to order, or if you can find a comparable color at an auto parts store try that too. I actually used auto paint from an auto-zone on my bronco. I wanted to order sherwood green metallic from reranch but the dude was away on some chili cookoff competition for 6 months so the ordering on the website was down (I'm not joking). I wound up with a color that's kinda halfway between sherwood green and an aged lake placid blue from autozone... it looks pretty cool.
But yea apparently reranch will only open themselves up for orders for like 5 minutes a year and when that's done you're screwed if you didn't hear about that brief moment that they were accepting orders.

From what I've heard, the guy that runs the business goes on tour often. While he's gone the orders don't ship out. There have been times where I've ordered and got the stuff in a week and other times it's taken a few weeks. It's something I can live with because I understand the situation. They don't say that on the site and if I didn't know I would be pissed, but I give them a pass because I understand what's going on.

OTOH, of I could source a reasonably close SFG paint locally, I would definitely be willing to consider that too... but I don't know where I can find it. Maybe get a paint shop to mix some up based on the Duco color codes (56 Buick, Duco 2253)... but even trying to find a auto paint supply shop in my area via Google is an excercise in frustration. ![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Theres a place in my town in Downey CA called Pallardy and Miller. They do a quick job of making aerosols of basically any color you want. It's pretty much the only place I get my paint from. Lay some Deft laquer on it and you've got a great nitro finish.
I like reranch whenever they decide to do business.

You can also search ebay for nitro and find OHIO VALLEY
Yell Like Hell
Grizzly.com sells McFadden, which is what Fender Custom Shop uses... they have it in sealer, clear & satin. But you gotta mix/thin it down and spray thru your own rig. ReRanch uses McFadden.
I've used Deft before it's available at Lowes & Ace Hardware. I've been told it won't "check" cause it's a furniture grade not instrument grade. This stuff is in spray cans, and cheaper then RR.
Parks used to be at Home Depot, but now I can only find it at Ace Hardware. I prefer it over McFadden, because the sealer has more solids in it, making it's easier to sand, faster dry time & better job at filling in all the small scratches. I haven't seen it in spray cans.
There are other brands of nitrocellulose lacquer for sealer, color & satin. I've tried to find a different source of color, but it never seem to pan out for me. Google is impossible. And most auto shops sell acrylic lacquer. Why the hell would anybody paint their car in nitrocellulose lacquer if it's gonna check & age?

This is interesting... Downey's not exactly down the street, but it's not across the country either - probably only an hour away.Sublimedo wrote:Theres a place in my town in Downey CA called Pallardy and Miller. How are their prices? In terms of color, how do I specify it to them - via the Duco color code, or...? Could they match based off of a photo or computer screen?
Thanks for the tip.

The code should work but I'd call them first before making an hour drive. I have no experience with this shop specifically but when I've had paint matched you've always needed an object the color you want to match. It needs to be pretty flat too. They use a scanner thing that looks like a big staple gun but where the "eye" or lense thingy is, it's like a 1.5" square IIRC and that needs to sit flat on the surface and they take an image to base a universal paint code off of. They can get very close if the conditions are met properly.Phil O'Keefe wrote: Could they match based off of a photo or computer screen?
This has always been cars or random objects to base car paint off of, so YMMV.
