New song... from my own solo project.

Post by othomas2 »

Hey guys & gals, Due to the long holiday weekend and feeling unwell... I decided to record another one of my songs.

They're all recorded at home with just the basics... so all rough demos.

Garage band > interface > Sony Stereo mic

CIJ Jag, Peavey Classic 30 & eq'd OCD in the chorus' and solo

Song '1410'

Let me know what you think... don't hold back.

cheers

great song, especially great vocal work. I liked it all, exept for the guitar solo, that I found was a bit too "classic" in this context.

Thanks for the comment... yeah, I think the solo is probably out of context.

It was one take to fill the gap as my comp deleted the original solo somehow... I didn't wanna spend too much time on it in case it got deleted a second time. I messed up the ending of it so filled it with terrible drum fill. Sounds really bad !!!

thanks

Ooh, nice work for a simple setup, and I dig your voice.

With just a little compression and some EQ on the main vox to brighten things up a tad, you'd be in business.

Sounds good Owen, the only thing I thought that was a bit out of place was some of the treatment to the main vocal as already stated. Not sure about the amount of reverb on it in parts but this could be remedied like Ultratwin says with some compression. As a quick demo, done the way you said though it is a great place to start building it up from

i'll agree with a wee bit of compression on the main vocal, but i quite like the ending of the guitar solo. gives it a little unexpected twist. is that a cheeky bit of autotune i hear on the second vocal part?

Thanks guys, yeah... I altered the vocals at the last minute too... and made it worse I think. There is way too much reverb I agree.

I often try hide my voice in autotune and other effects, like you will hear on a lot of the other tracks. A use the megaphone effect as well. Sometimes it becomes a bit of a mess. I should really spend much more time doing a good initial track before moving onwards. All my tracks need re-visiting and editing. Sometimes it's a case of listening to it over and over again before deciding what needs real attention. But I get impatient and lose interest quite easily.

thanks again for listening. Much appreciated.

i really liked the megaphone and effects on the 2nd vocal, it was just the main vocal reverb for me that was out of place at times. I think for a demo it was fine depending on the final use of the demo. If it is a guide for a final recording then this is sufficent. If it is a demo to try and get a deal then you need to refine it and maybe look at getting an engineer or producer to refine it a little more. I think though it is close though

Thanks matey, agree with you on all that.

I should be doing some more 'official recordings' soon in a studio for freez, so we'll see how that goes.

I really want to write some more up tempo stuff but I always revert back to similar chord sequences and depressing melody lines haha... maybe that's just me and I can't escape that.

thanks again for your words. Always good to hear what others think.
