maybe mine has been witch doctored or something, because almost everyone who's played it seems to have liked it (i say almost- there may have been peeps at doogfest who didn't like it but didn't say so out of politeness, i'm not sure). even some of my friends who couldn't really care less about fender guitars have loved it. my friend's dad wouldn't let it go, and he's got a gibson super 400, a 50s les paul, a couple of massive old gretsches, a gibson byrdland, an original epi casino... all sorts of amazingly expensive stuff lying around. his wife had to take it off him.
i'm sure all these people are neither idiots nor just pretending to like it just for my sake (that would be bizarre, thinking about it!). it's just one of these things, some people think they're thrown together nonsense and others are pleasantly surprised. i'm sure a fair few of them are dogs though, that wouldn't surprise me.

Not to call bs but saying an electric guitar is underwhelming for not doing any one thing particularly well doesn't really make sense to me. I mean I can see if it doesn't do what YOU want it to well enough. I have three semi/hollow bodied electrics right now....they're all different in their own ways but I love them all....how could I say one is more underwhelming than another if they're all quality instruments that play and sound the way I want them to?
As far as pro musicians go I know Courtney Taylor-Taylor of the Dandy Warhols plays one...can't think of any others:

You can call whatever you want, it's an opinion.Nick wrote:Not to call bs but saying an electric guitar is underwhelming for not doing any one thing particularly well doesn't really make sense to me. I mean I can see if it doesn't do what YOU want it to well enough.

An Epiphone Casino or Gibson 330 smokes this guitar. I am big fan of DeArmond designed pickups and this is one of the few guitars with dearmond pickups I just don't care for.
But like I said I'll stop beating a dead horse.

I thought Jack White played a red Coronado, but it turned out to be a 1970's Crestwood Astral II. Can any other kind of pickups be switched out for the stock Coronado ones?

Ooh, that's like a Starcaster then. Mine are not stock pickups because they were long gone. Since then I have obtained ONE. Now that's underwhelming. I like The National.
Now Joe gets to see how we value his opinion! We should hide our cards.
Goddam that black coronado. Maybe I need a black guitar.

The singer in my band plays a casino....very nice guitar in its own right but worlds apart from my Hagstrom. Does it mean my hagstrom is not as good as the casino? If it was the case I could have easily sold it and bought a casino, no?
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here. Admittedly I've never played one but I love the way they sound in recordings, look in pictures, plus the testaments and praise of happy owners have me pretty much in the mindset that they're similar enough to my viking with a fender neck and different pickups. If/when I end up with one (which probably isn't likely since I've never seen one for sale in black), I'll let you know if it's underwhelming.

It doesn't bother me. That's what forums are for, opinions. If everybody liked the same things the world would be boring. I like some guitars people would consider awful but that would be their opinion. I post on a Fender board where the average poster likes virtually every Fender guitar unless it's the Strat.and to be honest my favorite Fender is the Strat far and away, no question about it, no close runner-up. I sort of like the Jazzmaster but not really, never cared for teles at all(like tele players though), and I'm not over the moon with shortscales.DGNR8 wrote:

i don't know much about white stripes, never seen any live gigs but does meg white always play so..;dull ? i mean, ok if you don't move like animal playing drums but the sound of the kit too, it sounds so tame...it's like she's scared of acually hitting a drumkit ? lol
I always think of it more along the lines of a contrast to the more energetic/spastic way Jack plays. It keeps their music grounded and is probably by large why it's more accessible to mainstream listeners than many of the other two piece acts out there.kim wrote:

i guess i just thought because she's not a real good drummer, and it might make her screw up if she got too crazy with it.Nick wrote:I always think of it more along the lines of a contrast to the more energetic/spastic way Jack plays.
