I'm not entirely sure I buy the "she's not that good a drummer" theory....considering how long they've been a professional touring and recording band it would be hard "not" to improve on your instrument if that's what your career was. Most professional musicians have a playing ability beyond their material (aside from shredders who write new songs around new techniques as they develop them) that usually only comes out in solos during live performances. Also considering that many people would be able to pretty much do what she does most of the time after a couple lessons, or just messing around on a drum kit for a few days, I'm sure anybody would naturally pick up a few fills just messing around if they played drums as much as she does,.

i don't know much about white stripes, never seen any live gigs but does meg white always play so..;dull ? i mean, ok if you don't move like animal playing drums but the sound of the kit too, it sounds so tame...it's like she's scared of acually hitting a drumkit ? lol

Shitty live recording is at least partially responsible for the lackluster drum sound here.
She's still a very limited drummer but I think her tons of experience has earned her expertise at shitty drumming.
I think there's plenty of merit in that and I'm not saying this only because her progress somewhat mirrors my own as a guitarist.

i'm not saying minimalist is wrong, listen to the bands i mentioned, coachwhips, comanechi, bratmobile, akiko and tobi vail actually hit the drumkit with so much more energy, could be a shit recording of them yeah, but looking at how she's playing it's like she's not having a good time making music at all. i'm not dissing her for lack of skill, but more lack of passion, energy etc.

I was just looking over on curtis novak's site and he will rewind coronado pickups to be more like jazzmaster pickups. http://curtisnovak.com/pickups/repairs/Coronado/

alright, poor choice of words.

she's not that fancy of a drummer, which is perfect for the grimey shit they do. it's part of her charm (aside from her gorgeous rack), and the stripes sound would probably suffer if she did anything more than she does. i just meant that over the years on their recordings, she hasn't really improved on her timing, but has maybe added more passion. she's dead-on most of the time, but she'll always fuck up these little parts where i momentarily cringe. doesn't mean i don't think she's a good drummer, i just think she's not that talented as a drummer, which means fuck all coming from me.

i think with these alt-blues-rock duos that have been coming out in the last few years are all built around the guitarist doing vocals and guitar work that is just maddening. if the drummer shined, it'd balance the scales, and jack white or dan auerbach would be equivalent to their bandmates, and lose the slightest bit of luster.

another drummer in a duo that doesn't do more than he's supposed to:

Patrick Carney of The Black Keys

a drummer who does probably more than he's suppose to, but does it well:

David Prowse (sp?) of Japandroids

These guys are also a potentially good example of basic drums in the context of rock duos.
Altough more technical than Meg White's work, this is definitely not rocket science drumming.

of the double necks? I know nothing about them....I was after pics of a black 12 string (it'd be easier for me to justify buying a coronado as a XII to replace my danophobe than as yet another 6.) and that came up. Probably custom made from fender.

that's crazy, i've definitely never seen that before. the red trans one is cool too. could be a red wildwood, the green and gold ones seem quite common, but i think there was 4 types in total.
