Nice mustang, just wondering if those 70's mustangs all have skunk stripe on the back of the neck? Does yours?

Yep, mine's got a skunk stripe... I've never seen another like mine, is it quite rare? In person it's a lot more yellowed but apart from that its in pretty good condition. If you look in the photos, (sorry I don't know how to post a pic and just make it appear in your post rather than coming up as a link,) but you will see that it has a jag/jazzmaster bridge on it... It's pretty worn and looks about the same age as the guitar but I was wondering if '77 'stangs did ever come with a jag bridge as stock? Or was this definitely an aftermarket thing? I've since put on a mustang bridge because I just think they work easier...

Maple stangs were from late 70s. I don't know the specifics but if you were to put strat pickups in a maple stang, you could get a great strat tone, if you were after it.
They play and sound really well.

the maple neck was available from about 1976 onwards.
they're not especially rare.
they didn't ever come with a stock jag bridge, as far as i know.

Mine's a '78. It weighs a ton, the neck pocket is too big and the finish has orange peel all over it. I guess it's a prime example of those nasty 70s fenders people talk about. I love the neck on it though and it sounds pretty good despite all it's problems.
I agree with portugalwillie about the maple stangs, mine sounds quite different to my '66. I should do a comparison sometime.

Even the ceilings in Austria are made of snow!
LOVES maple. Hadn't really noticed that contour difference. Too many piles of guitar parts to sit down and look.
