Works in Progress

Post by JJLipton »

I thought this could be a cool thread where people post what tunes they're currently working on. Other people can also post tips for sections the poster has trouble with/etc.

Right now i'm working on the solo for the Ozzy Osbourne song "no more tears". I remember in the past i could never play this properly but now i think i finally got it down. finally!!
Another song by him i'm trying to get down is "A shot in the dark" the fills in the rhythm section are kinda tricky for me, especially near the end. Funny thing is, since both songs are in Eb i'm currently using my strat with is tuned to Eb. It sounds quite odd to hear these metal tunes played on a strat with single coils! I think the song was originally recorded with an SG jr, and i really love the tone he gets with the p90. SG JR+ JCM 800 = ???

i'm working through a number of beatles riffs at the moment. I feel fine, tax man, ticket to ride & day tripper. You think the songs are easy but when you start lookingat them you realise how complete the were at writing their songs

I am learning a couple of Zeppelin tunes (Stairway, Ramble on, Whole Lotta Love) and some Bob Dylan songs as well. I just bought my first White stripes songs, so I am sure I will add some of those as well. I am also continuing to work on some songs of my own which I hope to one day finish.

I have a whole bunch of songs i have to learn by this summer for new band

Rawnald Gregory Erickson II by Starfucker, Time To Pretend by MGMT, Love Like A Sunset by Phoenix(only the second half), Fortress by Pinback, and Gold Lion by Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Just listened to those songs

Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second sounds pretty easy, shouldn't be a problem

Time To Pretend is mostly Keyboard Synth stuff but i'll see what i can come up with.

Love Like A Sunset is right up my alley with those volume swells

Fortress has nice shimmery chorus lines, definitely can do that

Gold Lion has a CRAZY warbly lead guitar, fun fun fun

so yeah, i'm game for all of those, i'll start learning all the guitar parts tomorrow!

I'm also challenging a friend to figure out the classic Heartbreaker [zepp] solo before him! He's been looking up tabs like a pussy, that sort of thing has to be done by ear. How hard can it be?

Oh yeah thats a cool one! Whenever i try bending behind the nut, usually my guitar goes out of tune. Involves a lot of pull offs and some of those classic jimmy page licks. check this out

If anyone could give me a few pointers on the solo to "the ultimate sin" by Ozzy it would be very appreciated. Its the first one thats too hard for me to figure out by ear and its frustrating me!!

yeah, ride, crash, bass drum, snare, toms etc..all piece by piece track by track because i couldn't find that sort of rythm and playing in loops...only on beta monkey's 'bluesy' loops but they're only with hi hat... lots of work.

yeah annoying, whenever i'm searching around for drum wav's on the web it only seems to find either heavy metal loops or funky dance..... shite

one of my fave sample sites. doesn't have everything mind you, but a shitload of stuff you'd have trouble creating yourself (er, i would).
