True, unless you do high gain + chorused Andy Summers action circa 1984. Hence predictable '80 super strat shape, eh?mage wrote:hmmm, that hydra is pretty cool. you don't see a lot of double neck metal style guitars. those pickups don't really make too much sense for a 12-string though.

omg, that video could you possibly pack any more horrible 80s excess into 3 minutes? however, those were some interesting tones he was getting there. but I do believe andy summers could do more with just about any guitar than I could ever think of attempting.
also I must bow in respect to your exceptional knowledge of 12-strings and compression pedals. you are truly the guru of chime.

cogito ergo sum...thing or other...

Ah shucks, thanks for the kind words.
I've just gotten into compression in subtler ways than when I first discovered the usage of it, and still feel like I just know the dynamics parts of the story without fully understanding the "colorization" part of comping. I guess it just works for me and I think I'm on the right road to learning.
For me and the Ric 360-12, it's a strange thing. The nut is uncomfortably narrow, it's a bad work day to restring, the bass string comes before the octave, and the pickups are really hot, seemingly being everything opposite of what you'd expect from run-of-the-mill budget janglers for bright 12 string tone and comfort, but when compression is added with pickups in mid position, there is a delicate shimmer that arises from the fullness, much to my surprise. Added mids and upper freq EQ makes it audible in the mix, but it's worlds away from bridge-only chiming from a Dano XII, for example, and for that matter is everything a Strat XII isn't.
Be it a result of a narrow nut or the bridge+trapeze setup, Rics like the 360 also buzz (in a good way), which I think adds to the trashy 60s vibe. I've played a few cheap electric 12s and think they're fine for rhythm and added flair to a mix, but am now warming up to the fistfights I have with the Ric every time I track, being able to wrestle out tones I'm more satisfied with.
A lot of good reviews on the JF-2 guitars on the net, I like the mini buckers. I think the red looks the best.mickie08 wrote:suede wrote:speaking of...

I did that on my "MessG" Epi G400Asher wrote:It's got a few weird features, like turning the volume up with switch it from humbucking mode to single coil or something.

I saw a T-60 that was modified with one of them old skool wammys on eBay. It had a strat tremolo unit and the description said that springs were mounted underneath the pickups. I would love a T60 with a tremolo, but alas I had no cash. Maybe it could be a project.
