The Harmony Central Guitar Review archive

Post by westtexasred »

As you probably know,HC destroyed their gear review database in the move to 2.0 but I found this archive of guitar reviews from 2008 and before( Link ) If you have links to any other parts of the HC product review archives please post them here.

I cant believe they destroyed it, wtf. If you could dispose of the bias entries it was a buyers bible.
Searching for an old Kramer review last night was frustrating and pointless.
-1000 points HC.

I'd like to know how that happens :P Surely they backup their servers from time to time?!? What kind of shitty practice is it where a single server error loses years of data. That shit should have had a few historic backup at least on separate HDDs, maybe even tape, completely independent of the active server.

BAD admin practice there... really bad.

I've had luck doing a google search and then clicking through to the "cache" version. The formatting sucks, but it's readable. The only thing I usually pay attention to is Reliability.

It would be a fantastic resource if they could find a way to keep the total knobs off.

Exactly. It was one of the first places I went checking whenever I was considering new gear, but you have to dredge through the reviews of folk who couldn't POSSIBLY look at their stuff objectively and realise the negative aspects to it. Some of the reviews were uselessly biased.

you could generally spot them a mile off though.

actually, i think when i first got internet access in 2001 or something i submitted a review of my vox continental organ when i was drunk. i'm pretty sure i recommended buying a farfisa compact instead.

I imagine they're planning on bringing the old reviews back, given that they were a useful archive. Then again, the level of fail over there is so high right now that I wouldn't be surprised if the reviews disappear into the ether forever.

I agree.
Its been one of the most useful resouces i've ever found, still cant believe they would trash years of entries. The UG Community reviews are garbage and dont come close to HC, everything is based on how something sounds through a Line 6 Spyder and compared to "when i had my Schecter sc-1.."

I thought they were doing away with 2.0 until later. The banner message saying so is now gone too.
