Analyse this distortion sound.

I love the hollow grinding sound of the distortion on this song. Any idea on the gear used? Amps were either Marshalls or Laneys, can't remember for this period.

Not a damned clue, but Geezer's bass sure sounds tasty on that opening riff.

Infinitely more likely to be down to mic phasing (multiple mics on the cab) than the genuine sound of the amp- doesn't sound characteristic to any Marshall or Laney I've played. That's the thing about trying to recreate a studio sound- the same setup can yield a million tones based purely on the room, mic and mic placement.

You could probably get close with a graphic EQ or a delay set for a comb filter effect with the mix backed off.

Here's his gear as of '71. I think he changed it in 2001 or something and I think the album came out around '75. He used Laney's back then but Hell knows what bands actually use in the studio.
