KMD Amplifiers?

Post by robrtnickerson »

Anyone know anything about these things? KMD, I think they were dist. by Kaman? I have no idea really. I can pick up a 50 watt head for cheaps and was trying to see if it would be worth it at all. Probably will need work but I would really like a 50 watt tube head.

Didn't Bon Jovi (Sambora) use these at some point? Years ago I played some of these and wasn't too impressed. If I remember right, the clean channels on them were ok. Kind of Fenderish. The distortion channel on a hybrid was ok but the all tube one (I think it used 6l6's) was horrible. Can you try it out before you buy it? I would if you could.

I'm fairly certain it's not operable atm. I wouldn't give a whole lot of money for it if for no other reason than I'm broke. I had seen somewhere of the Sambora thing, and that's a major plus as far as I'm concerned. It will seem that much more authentic for my Bon Jovi tribute act "Sam Bora". It's kinda like what would have happened to the band had JBJ died during a particularly long session of roadie erotic asphyxiation. We're currently seeking a "Tico Torres" type if anyone's interested.

Really all that I would care about is the clean channel anyways.

You don't know what is wrong with it? Don't just buy it because it's cheap without knowing what is wrong with it. Transformers are expensive. Throw in a new set of tubes and you can be talking pretty big bucks. See if you can take it to someone to have them look at it. I guess if it's cheap enough you shouldn't lose too much if any at all selling it off if it's too expensive to fix. Tough call.

The clean channel was very decent on the ones I played. Can't remember the model it was though. It might have been 100 watts also.

The dude that's selling it is a friend. He is unloading all his unused stuff to fund a tour. He isn't sure if it works or not, I'm just assuming that it does not. I would not buy it without knowing full well what is wrong with it or without having played it. There is a very good local amp tech that we both go to if we have any issues. I guess what I'm saying is that even if I pay this guy for it and it turns out to be shit, than he would give me the money back or do whatever he had to in order to make it right. I was inquiring more into the overall sound quality of the amp. If it has a good clean channel than it very well could be something that I would be interested in, considering that I would likely get a good deal on the thing. As to how he could be unsure whether or not his amp works, he is quite busy setting up his tour and had not had the chance to hook it up yet.

I see. Well the ones I played had a very decent clean channel so if it was cheap enough. I'd probably buy one. I would have never paid full price for one though. The distortion side was pretty horrid sounding. This was a long time ago. I will say they didn't impress me enough to say, "this amp is awesome! I have to have one!"

I think if I can get it for under the price of a tank of gas, than I'll buy it just to see if I can explode it with my rockin'.
