I'm looking at getting a Tech 21 Sansamp of some sort. Going to be playing through a cheap solid state amp for the foreseeable future. Any recommendations?
The three button one looks handy, I alternate between finger picking and strumming chords a lot, play music with build ups/break downs (not hardcore or anything, more like a retarded version of At the Drive-In + Blonde Redhead but not really) so having clean/overdriven/cranked sounds would be cool.
was very happy with my programmable sansamp bass driver. three settings is handy, try find it second hand..though not many people will sell theirs once they have it.
they're worth spending a bit more money on than the regular non programmable one if you are in a band where you need to adjust your bass sound to different parts in a song or more mellow and more loud songs, instant 'ooomph' or dirt in climax parts so you cut through and make it sound really big.
i'm going to start brainwashing gavin into getting a sansamp soon. he doesn't know it yet, but he will (subconsciously) once he puts on the 'special glasses'.
i'm jealous of bass players in a nice band, all my bands where i played bass were scum so i gave up bass in a band ..just for my own stuff, but i so miss the live gigs as a bass player.
I have the regular basic one channel sansamp and I love it! I can't imagine playing a gig without it anymore! If I remember correctly it's only $10 more for the 3 channel programmable one, I would definitely recommend that, I really am wishing that I had gone that route. In my former band there wasn't a need for it, so when I bought it I figured why not just get the regular one. But my new band I'm playing a lot more complex stuff, and there's some parts where I really wish I could switch my tone up a bit.
Cool. I guess I'll get the three buttoner then. For some reason I assumed that it would sound worse. Bass gear is so fucking cheap it's making me paranoid. You can get a loud amp and a speaker cab for nuffin.
I just ordered one of the Programmable BDDIs from Proguitarshop. And to make the most of the astronomical $30 shipping fee I impulse bought a $250 tremolo (Empress) and a $200+ reverb pedal too (EHX Cathedral). Instant buyer's remorse. I'm such a dick.
Why the fuck did I spend $250 on a fucking tremolo?! FUCK! FUUUUCK!
earlier you said bass gear is cheap...i never found the programmable sansamp cheap...250 euro for a pedal is an investment, i mean, it's a good one, but still exspensive for a pedal. spending that much on a tremolo (which won't get more use than a sansamp) i could never do it, but i'm always broke anyway, i haven't spend a big sum on gear in over two years i think. just can't.
By cheap I meant that 300W amps loud enough to play any gig are cheap. The PBDDI is $190 in the US, so quite a lot cheaper than EU price, not that I think that's cheap or anything. I've been reading too many Harmony Central threads. What a dick.

If I had any money I'd think about it. I was actually gonna ask you if you wanted me to add any dynamics with the LBM on Mon but I forgot. Like using it as a boost/ volume.
i didn't think it sounded all that different from the OCD really, except the OCD's a bit better. might be that shan-dan bass amp though, it's hard to tell what stuff actually sounds like through it.
