Any cheap Jaguar copies out there?

The original shortscale guitars; Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicmasters, Jaguars, Broncos, Jag-stang, Jagmaster, Super-Sonic, Cyclone, and Toronados.

Any cheap Jaguar copies out there?

Post by mongoose69 »

There are plenty of cheap Jazzmaster-like guitars around at the moment (Xaviere, Jack & Denny, etc), but is anybody making an affordable Jag-like guitar?

And please, no mention of the Rondo SX Liquid (formerly SJM-62)- 24" scale or otherwise. I have an early 25 1/2" scale version that has never played well, even after a buzzstop and Warmoth Mpdified Mustang bridge were added.

Yes, of course. I've seen and heard many with great results. I just want to see something ready-made (yet readily mod-able) like the Jazzmaster guys have.

You Should look at the Worship guitar range... they do about 3 different variations for the jazz/jag type model.

The one I played sounded great !!!

Same thing as the Jack & Denny, headstock and all. Just located in the UK rather than Canada. They're nice guitars for the money for sure, but still 25 1/2" scale.

Their website is horrific, though.

I'd love to get a decent, cheap Jaguar... but my modded Jagmaster is pretty sufficient.

Brands like Worship, Wesley, Hodson and Shine have done cheap Offsets. There is a Stagg model available too.
I had a Wesley model and it was surprisingly good quality for little money but you'd be hard pushed to get better value for money than a Squier Jagmaster to be honest.

makes a good point though. . . there don't seem to be a lot of shortscale offsets around outside of fender.

There is one . Well, was one . Want to say Silvertone made it . Had the switches and stuff with 2 single coils ( which were shitty ) and had a strat sized neck and different head stock . Made of a real light wood too. Poplar ? Who knows . I had one when I was in my teens . I'll try and research it . If I find it I'll post it .

are you talking about the Harmony Bobcat / Silhouettes ?? I wouldn't really call those a jaguar copy as they are completely different in every way except for a vaguely similar body shape.

pretty much jagmaster and ibanez jet king are your choices for budget 24" scale guitars. or just keep a look out for cheap 70s musicmasters and such, sometimes you can find some good deals.

if you just want an offset I would take a look at the Fernandes Decade or the GFS offsets.

No, it has to be 24" scale. I had no idea the Ibanez Jet Kings were 24"- all of them, or just the latest version?

The Ibanez ORM-1 is a lovely little guitar. You get a lot for your money. Really well made and nothing I can think of to complain about. Got mine a while back and still think it's good, not just honeymoon period. The pickup wouldn't be my first choice but it's certainly not bad, and you can easily change that at any point.

And compared to my Jag to show the size difference:

No, I'm talking about a Harmony or Silvertone made about 20+ years ago. Been looking for the model but can't find it. Looked just like a Jag but had these squared off single coils like an old Eko and was made of a really light cheap wood. The neck was like a Strat. Still looking. I have been interested in the Xaviere offsets myself. Especially the telemaster copies.

Reverse body on this would be absolutely deadly.

I like the idea of the ORM, but that tailpiece… it’s a total deal-breaker for me.

Seeing as it’s thru-body, I wonder whether it can be removed.
