What would this be doing to your amp??? Kind of a Hotplate but in the FX loop???

Steer clear, those things are bullshit.

Attenuation needs to happen after the power amp (ie, just before the speakers) for power tube distortion to happen at reduced volume; those boxes just reduce the amount of preamp volume going into the power amp.

That's what had me confused. I couldn't see how it would work between the Pre and Power. It makes no sense, thanks for confirming!
