if i bought a cheapo hollow body guitar.. and added better pickups to it? im lookin to get a semi-acoustic but dont wanna spend
a lot of money. thank ya much

Yh thats what I was going to suggest, or a Washburn HB35. Wasburns are lovely but have terrible pickups.

epiphones are lovely, and have luscious pickups. bridge pup is a little weak, but a dirty fingers took care of that

srsly. i think i got mine for like $250 a few years back, and now they sell on craigslist for like half that.

I agree buy an epiphone Dot (they're good enough for Josh Homme) and put one of these GFS Vintage 59 in the bridge as epiâ€™s standard bridge pickups are a bit shit. Iâ€™ve had a Riviera for about 15 years and have tried a few sets of pickups in it, I put a couple of GFS p90s in it last year but have put the original neck pickup and the GFS vintage 59 in it just this week and itâ€™s the fantastic...

PS: sorry for posting this pic again...but it does look class does it not.

I owned an epiphone supernova for a few years. I replaced the pickups and still was never happy with it. New pickups will dramatically alter the sound of the guitar, but don't expect miracles. Then again, i did replace the supernova with a charvel san dimas, so there was a major style change happening.

I think it was mostly a style thing really, right now i got 2 guitars with hot humbuckers, locking trems, maple boards, and i couldnt be happier. The supernova had none of those things.

Yes basically. Wire in quality electronics to anything and it will sound good to a degree.
Check Westfield 335s, cheap but excellent guitars.

I bought a 2001 Dot (for Â£200) a few weeks ago and Iâ€™ve been really impressed by it.

I mean, the overall acoustic sound and sustain are really good, and thatâ€™s without upgrading the cheap looking nut and bridge.

Itâ€™s my first guitar with humbuckers, and I havenâ€™t played it plugged in much, so Iâ€™ve no real opinion of the pickups.

Been done with great results . I've had 2 rodded up Squiers . Have a Tele Custom with Filtertron style ( The GFS Retrotrons . AWESOME pickups ) and the the thing wailed . Right now I have a Squier 51 with an SD Invader in the bridge and a Vintage rail in the neck . Pickups cost more than the whole guitar itself . However it's my #1 out of my 3 six strings . Just sounds and plays amazing . The most important things a tht the guitar feels right to you and the you like the bridge and neck . And the body wood of course . Electrics you can always redo and install top shelf components .

The Epi DOTs and Wilshire reissues , A lot of the Hondo ( Agile ) stuff , etc . All great stuff.

Anyone ever try GFS semi hollow bodies or the agile as-1000?

I liked the ibenez one but it was not too cheap.
