I got a beat up old Laney DP 150 and a 4x10. I bought it from a dude the day after a night of heavy drinking, with only the dude's fretless to test it out (which sounded like a barfing walrus cuz I'm tone deaf) at volumes that you'd expect from a dude with a hangover. I took it to practice and was pretty pissed at how shit it sounded at decent volume. Also, it wasn't as oppressively loud as I was hoping for. It sounded like my 65W Marshall piece o shit, but ever so slightly louder.
With the sansamp going into the effects return, it sounded pretty good and a lot louder. I got it two days before my band's first gig and didn't really have time to test it out and just used the SVT setting and the distorted bass setting in the manual. DI out into a PA. Fucking huuuuuuge sound. And a third setting for our goofy noisecore song.
You've gotta be cautious with the settings though, the very first thing I tried with it was maxing out the level and gain, and got the loudest, most ungodly high pitched squeal that killed any ability to hear high end ever again.
I saw a sludgy stoner rock band playing at the same venue the next night with an old SVT and 8x10 cab, and then promptly felt like a dick for thinking that I got a huge sound.
Sansamp for bass. Which one?
