GuitarMill necks

Okay, I've been dying to get my hands on a lefty Jagstang neck. Since they weren't put out in the US in left handed at all they are pretty much impossible to find lefty here. So, if any of non-US 'scalers encounter one of these, full guitar or just the neck, please please contact me, either PM here or on Facebook if you have me on there.

Conversely, I might consider a lefty Japanese Mustang for a reasonable price, as it's not really what I want what I want to pay for one isn't all that high. If anyone encounters one of these for $500-ish, I'd like to at least have a look.

And before anyone asks, I can't find any luthier who has the template, nor is willing, to make me one of these. It's a fucking dire situation to be lefty. If anyone has any links or contacts who could help me in that department instead, I'd appreciate.

That's odd...how hard could it be? Just take a headstock template from a right-hander and reverse it.

You can get any of their necks made in 24" scale with a leftie peg head. The shape isn't the same as a real Fender headstock, but it wouldn't be that far-fetched to sand the point down.

Er, no. It's not about the headstock. This isn't a matter of just getting a standard 24" scale neck left handed. The Jagstang, and Mustang, had a particular shape and radius, which I cannot find anywhere.

Well, USACG will build you pretty much whatever you want. Do you know someone who has a Mustang or Jag-Stang neck? If so, get some calipers (like $15 from a hardware store) and take measurements of the thickness of the neck at the 1st, 5th, 12th, and 21st frets. If not, I'm sure someone on here would be happy to do it. Then ask for a C shape contour, and straight 7.25" radius. Only setback is that it's expensive...for rosewood it'll be around $300 for an unfinished neck. IMO though that's reasonable for a custom piece built to your specs.

I feel your pain Pens. I've been keeping my eye out for a lefty 24" scale neck for as long as I can remember...no joy on UK eBay. There was a mint lefty JagStang ('96 I think) listed about a month ago with a BIN of Â£1000!!!! It didn't sell, but was reduced to Â£900 and I haven't seen it since...I forgot to watch the relist. That's just crazy money.

Thom, you have a Jagstang, correct? Is there any hope of finding a luthier locally that could replicate it exactly? What would that run?

Thanks for the suggestion, but no that won't work. You cannot select a left handed neck with 7.25" radius.

Quick, someone with a Jagstang tell me what neck profile the Jagstang neck is? I don't know what any of these actually feel like with out being able to feel it myself. I know I liked the feel of the '65 Mustang neck, and the JS supposedly had an even nicer thinner neck.

I've never ordered anything from them but I have sent them an email or two with a few honest questions and I actually got honest answers. Basically you can send in a request and they'll build you whatever you want.

If the Guitar Mill thing doesn't work out, then yeah just let me know, I can ask someone locally to give me a price for a copy of my neck.

If you don't mind, could you get that quote as well? I can spec out a GuitarMill neck but I don't know if it is the legendary JS neck in profile. I'd like to know how much that would run us.

Hey, actually could you take a measurement for me of the width of your Jagstang neck at the 1st fret?

I tracked down that the JS had a nut width of 1.5" as opposed to the 1 5/8" that comes on the Mustang and Jaguars, so I have to ask GuitarMill if they can even do that width, but I still need the width at the first fret to determine the profile as no amount of searching has turned up what the profile was.

Yes, thanks for doing that Thom. I have the info now, unfortunately based on the profile numbers I think it might be referring to the depth from the fretboard to the back of the neck at the first fret, since these are < 1" for all of the profiles.

Still searching...eventually I will have the exact technical specs for this neck.

Okay, so I emailed GuitarMill about doing the neck with a 1 1/2" nut width (1 9/16" is extremely close to this), they said they would, I just need to figure out the depth of the neck at the first fret to try to determine the shape of the neck...

C - Shape - .830" @1st Fret .900" @12th
Chunky C - Shape - .860" @1st Fret .930" @12th
D - Shape - .780" @1st Fret .850" @12th
Fat / Baseball Bat - 1.00" @1st Fret 1.00" @ 12th
Hard V - .860" @1st Fret .930" @ 12th
Soft V - .850" @ 1st Fret .940" @ 12th
Chunky V - .900" @1st Fret .970" @ 12th
SRV / Assymetrical - .860" @ 1st Fret .950" @ 12th

I was thinking it might be D, which looks like a flatter C, but based on the specs I've been able to find for the old Mustangs indicated they had a C shape...I just need to try to decide on this.

stupid question. whats wrong with just getting a righty JS neck and bolting it on what ever you have...it will end up looking like a supersonic in style
