Epiphone Casino

Post by izodiak »

Hi!

I bought a guitar a while back, thanks to Your advice, and I have been very happy with it..
But there are some upgrades I wanted to make, and I come again to ask Your advice.

For example, the bridge breaks the strings like crazy, I was thinking about a roller bridge, could that help?
(im no heavy strummer, but they break almost immediately, and I use 'eadbg' tunning)
This bridge

And I even thought about changing the pickups cause they are quite dull compared to my Mexican strats puickups, I understand that fenders have them much more 'snappy' but I was thinking something in the sound of a filtertron maybe..
But the P90 size dosnt allow to insert an humbucker there, so just a pair of GHS P90s ? Or it wont make a big difference.

any advices, I will be happy to hear.

that should do, my first advice would be heavier strings? but i'm sure that wouldn't help?

or couldnt' you smooth out the saddles with a file or something?

I used some heavy strings, like 12to54 they lasted longer, and I got used to them, but after playing my stratocaster, that has 10to50/52 they just felt a little clumsy for me..

file? It means scratch the tiny sharp holes smoother/larger?
that would save some money, I suppose.

I’ve got the same bridge on my Dot and (even with .10s and tuning up to FACGCE) it hasn’t been a problem. As Josh said, try filing them down. If I am informed correctly, the saddles become sharper over age (create more of a “V shape as the strings press against them) and you want to create more of a “U shape with a small, rounded, file. Although, I’ve never done it, so I’d look it up before you start.

As far as pickups are concerned, the Casino is all about the P90s.

NASA sticker is always cool in my book! How do you like your Danelectro Spring King? I think I saw it in one of your pictures.
Man, I'm so craving a semihollow guitar/bass.

Then it is the misfortune of singer/guitar player.. shoo(i)t.

The Spring king is really good, I love the spring 'plock' sound it gives and if You kick it, it makes the crazy spank sounds.
One thing I would really like is a dry/wet signal blender.. to make these hipster effects, like just the reverb sound.
And the reverberation is plenty.. Almost hall'ish.. I can make a demo if You wish.

I mainly use just the reverb at max and the volume about three o clock, I use this and one overdrive pedal.. haha.
Very simple setup.
