maple-stang sighting

Got to plunk around on a maple-stang today. FIrst one I i have seen IRL. Really liked it, but too rich for my blood. Wish one could get maple necks like this for projects.

Very good conditions and even had original case and owners manual.

Is that at Guru Guitars in raleigh? They also have a black one for about the same price.

I'm taking their amp building class right now, I was in there yesterday.

That thing looks fantastic for an non-reissue, and would love to play.

Just the same, out of my recently-acquired fear of ruining vintage stuff, if I were to 'Stang I'd stubbornly point my funds in the direction of a recent make CIJ MG77. Something in me wants to rock out on gooey poly-coated Ash + Maple + a set of flatwound Robroe 13s to incur bleeding ears galore.

That's the one. I was in there yesterday as well. You weren't the guy playing the tremolo pedal in stereo?

Those little low watt amps he makes are very cool. Been thinking about building one myself. I need to have him change out the caps on my 64 blacface champ.

no, I was in there around 6:30 when the class started, there was another guy that had brought in an old 60's Supro amp with tremolo that he had fixed up and he was playing that for the guys that worked there, but other than him the only other people in the store then were there for the class.

Yea Mark makes some pretty cool stuff, We're building a 3.5 watt version of the old Fender tweed Deluxe right now, I'm really excited. He says after the class we'll be able to mod and repair amps as well as build and design our own amps, so if you feel trusting enough of a noob doing it, I could take a look at it for you if you wanted.

Yea He's done a couple different ones with the past classes. They have two or 3 of them in there to play. This is the first one on the 5e3 circuit I believe, and the past classes have been building amps with 6 or 8 inch speakers. Ours is gonna have a 10, and it's a little bit more complex of a circuit. I'm really excited about it.

He also has an old silvertone radio that he converted into a guitar amp for sale there. It's a 1/4 watt amp and it sounds really cool and it has a 4 inch speaker and can be run out to a cab. I'm planning on making one of those when I get done with the class too.

I love it. That exact color combo (3TS, black pickguard, maple neck) is, IMO, one of the classiest Fender has ever made...I have a P-bass just like that. But that burst does have a bit too much red in it for my taste.
