MIJ Jaguar Switch Reversing

Post by Duv »

Hi ss.org,

So I want to reverse the switching on my Jag, because I'm constantly turning the pickup selectors off with my overenthusiastic picking.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/pro ... 10-115.pdf

On page two there is a diagram of the wiring.

On another guitar forum I was told that the easiest way of doing this would be to desolder the connections on the two switches (I want to leave the 'strangle' switch as it is) and resolder them to the opposite sides of the switch. An alternative method would be to just unscrew the switches and physically rotate them.

I was more keen on doing the soldering as I was worried about wires crossing over/maybe coming off. Now if I wanted to resolder the wires onto the opposite sides would I just resolder everything so the end product would be as if I just physically rotated the switch? Basically what does 'opposite' mean in this context, and which wires go where?

Cheers,
Duv

I think you've got the idea. IIRC you'd just take the hot wire from the pickup (or on the case of the neck pup, the one from the "rhythm circuit" switch) and put it on the pole on the other side, right behind the wire that connects those three switches together. I'd try physically rotating them first, though.

So to clarify.

The two switches at the moment have two rows of pins. At the moment the wires from the pickups go to the top right pins and there is another wire connecting the two pickup switches and the strangle switch as such:

o • •--------to switch for rhythm circuit
o o o

o • •--------wire to bridge pickup
o o o

the ones connected in the middle at the top are the ones linking the switches.

to reverse the switching do I swap the wires so the switches look like this

o o o
• • o

o o o
• • o

where now the wires that connect the switches together are middle/bottom instead of middle/top, while the connection out to the pickups moves from top right of the switch to the bottom left.

I know that's quite a poor representation but is that what I need to do?

Cheers,

i opted to unscrew the plate and just reverse the switches individually
had zero issues thus far

mind you i'm glad of that as i did it before soundcheck at a gig (i was tired of hitting my kill switch off while playing)

Took me a while to find it, but here is the thread where Mike does this exact thing to his CP Jaguar:

Hope that's helpful.

Even with the tele there is a bit of soldering involved. Really just extending leads but it is was easier than re-soldering all of the connections. Just flip the switches individually, extending anything if necessary, and you should be fine!

you can't just flip the switches on the CIJ's, anyways.

they're all soldered together with little bits of bare wire.
