Two 4x12 Cabs?

Post by Freddy V-C »

The promoter who's putting on my band's next gig has let me know that he has two 4x12 cabs for us to use. The other guitarist is using a combo amp, which means that in theory I could connect my Tiny Terror up to both cabs. They're both 8ohm cabs, and the Tiny Terror has two 8ohm outputs. So, would this work? Will I look/sound like a twat if I do it? I really do rather like low end...

DON'T DO THIS UNLESS YOU WANT A DEAD AMP

The speaker outputs are wired in parallel, meaning your two 8 ohm cabs would result in a 4 ohm load, possibly killing your transformer.

Check out the bottom page under Speaker Outputs: http://www.americanmusical.com/ItemFile ... Manual.pdf

They've done a shit job of labelling the connections in a sensible way- to use two cabs like that, they'd need to both be 16 ohms, result in an 8 ohm load for the amp.

You can either hook the two 8 ohm cabs up in series (one after the other, if one has a "link" output), which would result in a 16 ohm load, or just use the one 8 ohm cab connect to a 8 ohm output.

I'll probably just end up using one in that case... DREAMS CRUSHED. So, if it turns out there is a 'series' thing, do I need to use the 16ohm output on the Tiny Terror?

Yeah, that's right- putting two loads in series adds the impedance together giving ye 16.

To be honest if you are going to do something as ''rock'n'roll'' as having two 4x12 you might aswell go all out.

Forget EVERYTHING doog said and do what you said you were gonna do in the first place, then let your amp die on stage and proceed to smash up and or set fire to all of your equipment...

BAH impedence!? Who needs it...

:D

Fuck. Sorry about that. I'm glad there are other, more knowledgeable people about to make sure that I don't tell people to blow up their stuff.
