i need a new cab
so in my infinite wisdom i know what killed my VOX ac100 head
it has no 4 ohm out.. and my cab is 4 ohm ... oops.. whatever. thats what warranty is for..
however i now need to pick up a new cab.. as i do not feel like blowing up my head again..
Marshall
MG412 Slanted 4x12 Cab for $299.00
Lank
or
Behringer
Bugera 4X12 200 Cab for $320
LANK
this is what i'm currently rocking:
Fender
FM 412SL Guitar Speaker Enclosure
Lank
any thoughts, suggestions? other options i'm not thinking about? budget is kind of an issue (i do not want to spend more then 400 on a cab at most.. and would really prefer around 200 - 300...) there is nothing on my local craigslist or kijiji

I've got a MG412 slanted that I hardly ever use... the few times I have used it at home it's sounded pretty good... I'm hardly a tone expert though

It would probably make a lot more sense. It's not difficult, and regardless of the quality of your current cab, you'd end up with a better cab than if you bought another cheap one. A cheap cab with good speakers in it is going to be better than a cheap cab with cheap speakers in it.
Having said that, you should check out Freddy VC's thread on 412 cabs for an indication on how good my advice is.

haha paul, you gave him the same advice that i would have given him...
so...
maybe i'll try to rewire the thing i've got a couple hours before band practice tonight..
can't be any harder then when i added a direct out to my fm212 (that cut out the speakers in the twin cab, so i could use it as a head with my 4x12)

All I can say is stay away from the Behringer cabs.
I used to have one and it sounded like absolute shit and was pretty poorly built.
I'm a very far cry from a tone purist but that thing was brash, even by my standards.
I thought I'd be saving money but I sold it at a considerable loss within a week of getting it.
Bite the bullet and get something good, you'll be glad you did.

Did you see this?
Good cab, not a bad price PLUS HAN SOLO STENCIL!
No idea what the loads are, though.

people around here are trying to fuck everyone else in the asslaterallateral wrote:Man I can't believe what people are asking for cabs over there...
Somebody's selling a Behringer 4x12 for FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!! ????
That is some bullshit.
there is a shop that got a bunch of water damaged peavy cabs in and they are still selling them for $350, and then not telling anyone they were water damaged in the peavy warehouse.. (the sales dude let it slip when a buddy of mine was chatting him up)
the difference is instrument cable is shielded while speaker cable is not. also, speaker cable sometimes uses fatter wire. it's probably best to always use the proper cable but I think in a pinch it would work.Gavin wrote:Quick questions while we're talking aboot cab's; Is connecting a cab with speaker cable (rather than a guitar cable) a should do or a must do?

Though I know it must never be done, I have no idea what can be expected from doing it.
Are we looking at physical damage to the amplifier or just a drop in performance from using instrument cable on speaker cabs?
