Fender Band-Master VM Guitar Amp Head

Post by johnnyseven »

Any had any experience with one of these? Are they any good? Not bothered about the dodgy FX or overdrive, just really interested in the clean sound and how well it takes pedals. Any comments appreciated.

Ive played the Vibro xd / super champ xd and both VM head /combo...Cleans are great,,the distortions are ok....But when i put pedals thru it,,I was very let down,,Thoes amps just dont takes pedals well...Used a stock boss ds-1/sd/1 Wampler triple wreck and a wampler jcm800 modded ds-1..I would look at somthing like a Carvin MTS 3200. I has a geat clean ch that works awsome with distortion pedals and you can get them around $400 on the bay

I've actually got a V55HD and I agree it is really good. I played a gig with it on saturday and the drummer and guitar player from the metal band we played with both complimented me on my guitar sound after our set and wanted to know what amp I was using!

I was asking about the bandmaster as a mate is interested in buying one and I thought i'd try and get some opinions on it for him.

They look pretty solid, and if they're as good as the champ ones, it'll be winner!

Are you not using the Orange Rocker 30 anymore? or did you manage to sell it through this forum?

I eventually bought mine a couple of months back and I've loved every second of using it.

I found it a lot harder to find the right EQ for my type of sound than my little Blues Junior but just find it to be a far better amp. The first thing I noticed was having to work more for the sound I wanted(if that makes sense?!) and it has a lot more dynamic when you play through it, you don't really get the aggressive overdrive from it unless you're spanking the crap out of your guitar which is always fun :)

Ideally I'd love to be able to play through both the Blues Junior AND the Orange as you just can't get the nice sparkly clean tones from the latter but it's just not possible for someone who doesn't drive!!!

I sold it through Gumtree in the end to a guy who lives in Yorkshire, it was a bit of a hassle but I got exactly what I wanted for it - I just had to drive to Milton Keynes to exchange it for cash.

I did really like the amp but it didn't agree with all my pedals and I couldn't get the clean sound I wanted from it, also at band practice I seemed to spend all my time fiddling with the amp and my pedals and not spending time concentrating on what I was playing and the songs we were writing. In the end I wanted something that had a good clean sound and that I could just plug in and play without having to fiddle around with anything - that's why I jumped on Mike's Bugera V55HD as I wanted something cheap that would tide me over while I found someone to buy the Orange whilst I researched and saved up for something that would really suit my sound. That's why i'm now looking into getting a Fender Bassman, however I have been looking at Vox heads too - such as the AC30HH and AC50CPH. When I get my ideal amp I may sell the V55HD, but for the price I paid for it I may just decide to keep it.
