Bamboozled?

Post by ultratwin »

Maybe not, but a weird feeling indeed.

I just dropped the Willows online shop to see what's new, and apparently a guy named Serigo had commissioned Mr. Ryu to build a clone of the Cindicaster. Nearly identical in every way, from the materials and details to the parts used(only the soft V neck, string tree, and knobs are different), I was a bit surprised to see that they actually matched the thing with PROPER PAINT, including an excellent shade of smoke green.

I felt rather ill last time when the shop assistant so nonchalantly shot down my request for a master volume route and body color match of the guard without even letting me talk to Mr. Ryu on the other line, and now to see this thing pop up "perfect" the first time out just months later left a stomach acid tang in my mouth. Not displeased with what we've got by any stretch, but I must admit that the guitar is a bit greener on the other side. HMPHHHH.

That's one hell of a mashup. I'd love to have something like that. The Gretsch two tone green is the icing on the cake. That shit of a shop assistant should have a tele upside his head Keef style.

So you won't mind if he makes a third one for me ;-)

Joking, but that guitar is amazing. Right up my street.

On a side note... the bodies on Willows are great.

This black tele body with binding is 180,000 Korean Wons... which is £100. Is that right?! Think they'd ship abroad?

The bodies and necks he makes really do look quality.

Aye, they're quite nice.

What you see in the shop are the "custom" bodies that stay home, while the rest are built and shipped en masse out to WD Guitars. It's rare to find such a place, able to take custom jobs yet at the same time have Kent Armstrong, Wilkinson by Sungil/Schaller/Floyd Rose stuff available from the back of the truck, in addition to their own line of completed production instruments.

@Tim: That single-bound black body used to be W160,000 two years back, and I used to eye it myself! I'm sure they could ship stuff out, though prices from Korea are never cheap. Getting that pink double-bound body out to Mezzio via Korean National Standard cost $70, though I imagine going via EMS would have still been about $55. Would be worth a quote, nonetheless.
