So my little Fender Amp search might be over...

Post by Mike »

The same day my JCM800 2204 sold, I won this little guy on ebay for £300. It's not sale of the century (£250 would be a damn fine price), but it's exactly what I'm after I think.

I'll hopefully get some time to make a demo when it turns up, a few demos showing these lush cleans was what turned my head

Vibro-Champs are obviously way more fun - they can do more overdrivey stuff and that Trem is gorgeous, but I figure I don't really need that. The Princeton would have been fantastic but I imagine this will be just the ticket for low volume stuff and pedal testing.

It would be a 2 hour round trip on the bus to pick this up, so I'm asking if he can ship it *fingers crossed I don't get ripped off again*

More overdrivey stuff? Same circuit save for the trem, surely?

There's an extra tube in the Vibro Champ which can give you more preamp gain even if the Trem isn't in action apparently - same with the Princeton vs Princeton Reverb apparently.

About what I paid for mine. It's the best small tube amp in the world. It's so natural, it makes a crappy distortion sound crappy and a good one sound good. Will suit your purpose perfectly.

Sweet Champ you got there, Mike!

Every player should have one.

(But allow me to confirm that the Vibro Champ has no more gain than the regular Champ - the Princeton Reverb, however, does have significantly more gain than the Princeton.)

Video sounds so good - those cleans are amazing for such a small speaker. Great amp!

I don't think you could have found a better Champ than that one! Can't wait to hear some rocking demos of it.

I'm not sure what's happening with the gear list and space availability but hows about you take that to Progfest, I'll take the Vibro Champ and we'll have a 20 minute A/B session and let our ears be the judge. A high output bucker, vintage output single (your jag perhaps), and boost and a couple of dirt pedals to see if they react any differently. Maybe even a trem pedal (i still have that catalinbread) on your Champ to see how close we can get it to the amp trem. Someone could check the schematics to see how similar they are of course, but that's much less fun.

I call beret guy, which I'm afraid makes you the less cool ginger guy. Euan to be Kari? I'll get working on the goatee.

I have really similar glasses to that dude. Yeah - if I get it before Progfest (I really should) it's definitely coming. I'll bring my Saltshaker trem and see if I can cop those tubey trem tones with it.

I'm really excited to get it, but I'm understandably still a little "fneh" since the whole Princeton debacle.

Rock on. Do you have any idea of the year? The vibrochamp is a 79.

Cool. I'm slightly saddened that you've went from gigantic Marshall to tiny Fender, but if it's what fits the bill, then happy days.

My new neighbours in London would stab me up if I had the JCM800 in there as my amp. Plus, to be frank, if the JCM800 is sat there, chances are, the room is full.

Nice one there Mike. My mate Keiron has one and its fucking lush. It doesn't break up though when cranked, could be because it needs to be serviced or the guitar i was using. But still a nice lil amp.

Congrats! :D

That looks amazing, sounded really rich for such a small amp.
