Charles Orr Shortscale Bass

Post by westtexasred »

Saw a nice shortscale bass at my friends store. It was made by The Late Charles Orr. It looks like the picture below. The price $400. I'd buy it if I had the money. If you never heard of Charles Orr,he was Minneapolis luthier who used to have a shop on 42nd street in south Minneapolis.Prince used to hang out at Chuck's store when he was teenager. Most of his guitars were one of a kind.Below is short film about him. The machine gun guitar in the vid was made for Jesse Ventura.

I'm not sure why but bass always seems to attract the wackier elements of guitar design. I've seen some odd looking guitars in my time but none of them can match the sheer weirdness that you sometimes see from bass builders. Still I could put up with the weirdness if only people would stop making basses that sound amazing but look like coffee tables.
