Actually got it for my 6 yr old son to teach him how to play. Guitar is a 20.5 scale ltd kirk hammet jr. Was taken aback at the playability of the guitar. Certain licks like unison bends at the first and 2nd string were really easy to pull off. The neck dosen't feel cramped at all playing normal chords, and notes still ring out even when played at the 20th fret. Only issue is the tendency to overbend notes. Definitely would want to get more short scale guitars in the future. Am considering the ibanez grg mikro or the durango custom guitars for future purchase.
Kinda stumbled on this site while searching for what short scale guitars are available on the market. This site has really opened my eyes to a whole new world of guitars and easy playability. At least i know im not alone in wanting to play shorter scale guitars.
the fender/squier mini strats are also 22.5" scale (using a conversion neck) so you can literally toss that neck on any 25.5" bolt on neck guitar (fender style..) and make it an almost instant shortscale (may need to do a bit of an intonation adjustment)
I have a Stagg kids short scale guitar that is really nice (under 20" scale). It is a one pickup strat thing that I put in a high output lipsitck in. Makes nice sounds. I got it for my kids, but kept it for myself. I use it as my travel guitar. Ibanez Mikro's are nice, but watch the fret ends. I picked one up at GC and it cut my finger right open and was bleeding.
