Celestion Vintage 30
Got a Vintage 30 on the way to replace the Blue Marvel in my Classic 30... mistake ? I've read quite a few reviews... some suggesting that it'd be too mid heavy for this amp but every clip I've seen with amps fitted with V30s I've liked, and in person too. Can't wait to strap this speaker in.
One question ... Does it matter which way I connect the spade connectors on this amp. I'm assuming so as I can see a Blue and Yellow cable ?
cheers

The Blue Marvel/Peavey Classic series combination is probably one of the weirdest stock configuration I've personally come across in any combo amp.
The fact that the Classics still manage to sound quite good trough them is testament to how great these amps are, especially considering how much better they'll sound with a replacement of any reasonable quality.
That speaker stright CRIPPLES what is despite it, a great sounding amp. I've never been a huge fan of the Vintage 30 but I still think that you've done yourself a huge favour.

I don't think this is likely to cause any damage to either the amp or the speaker.
What it may do is cause the cabinet to vibrate excessively, which has been an issue for the classic series since day one.
That's probably the reason behind the crazy tube cage thing. So on the one hand, your tubes should be well isolated against any vibration causing tube rattle but on the other hand, this is a design which is prone to tube rattle in the first place, soooo...
If I was you, I'd re-install the speaker with the foam washer, just to be safe but in the real world and especially if the amp doesn't sound bad to you now, It might not be necessary.

Ok Cheers Guys.
Originally I thought I'd be able to swap the speaker no probs... but tubes/ amp all need removing, and those nuts the hold in the speaker are a pain in the arse to get to. Anyways, you confirmed my doubts... best do it properly. That'll teach me for not looking in the box lol. Too many beers tonight now so it'll have to wait for tomorrow, wouldn't wanna touch a transformer.
