WANGSTANG n THANGS

Post by DGNR8 »

This is the Wangstang, folks. It used to have WANG all over it. I had to rub it out.

Back from teh DADE! I refinned Pat's bass start to finish in 3 days. I didn't do it properly, neither. I wasn't even going to wet sand it. I thought about leaving it as it was and just playing it, but I couldn't stop the guns. I borked the A string when I was tuning it. I don't know what key I must have been in. How do you break a bass string right out of the gate? Both it and the Gretsch bass are having action issues. I am in the uncharted no-man's land of loosening truss rods. They were both cranked to jesus. Fucking hippies, man. Read a book, FFS.

Plz visit my Flickr account (Shinola). I also have a mint Mosrite Celebrity and a few others up there. I was having to decide between two red Mosrites and two Tele Deluxes. It was a real Sophie's choice for me. I think I made the right decisions to cut them in HALF and glue them all into a boat to paddle across the Rubicon.

I am still gearing up for a big sell-aberration. I sneaked in a few pictures of the XII and a Tele Deluxe. I will try to get those photos bagged and tagged, but I may not remember to come back to announce it. I am right in the middle of a 1949 Epiphone and a 1937 Kalamazoo that would make you cry. Some believe the Kalamazoo was the other model Robert Johnson was playing the few known photos. It is a shortscale. They say he could wrap his spidery fingers all over those big chords. I built a bridge for it out of rock hard fucking ebony and it was too high, so I had to steam it back off (after letting it sit for a year to think about what it done). A fucking espresso maker is the best tool for hide glue. No shit.

The Epi was cracked and missing things. I just got it glued back together and put the first coat of nitro sealant on it. It went from a dirty maple color to wet oak in a few strokes. I have the photos on my phone and will try to Flickr them tomorrow. Even the tiger haters will feel the throb for this 60 y.o. damaged wood. I bleached most of the dirt off of it and it has that otherworldly deep sinewy sheen. My christ it is a lovely fat bottomed crooner. I hope the neck is straight because I am fixing to string it up.

If I ever do a competition Mustang, the stripes will go all the way around. I know most of them are not like that, but it seems incomplete for some reason.

Celebritys are so underrated. I am glad I stumbled across them. It's the rockabilly jazzbox body with Ramones pickups. (Uh, except Joey modded his pickups). Low flat frets are buttery. I wanted to keep this one and sell the fucked out one, but I can't let go of that thing. This one was a lucky bid and I was able to fix it because I already had one to work from. They look spooky next to each other, like Christine fixing itself.

I have moar photos, but have been ugly busy at work and life. The planet is still in flux. I have decided to just try not to let it get me down.

I can't take any credit on the Mosrite. That was just luck and knowing how to do a proper setup.
