First glance it doesn't look like a real Fender, mate.

I could be wrong but that's not a Fender. Someone has put a Fender decal on a copy.

Yeah, I don't think Fender ever made 2-piece headstocks. Plus that bridge is weeeeeird.

Does the body shape look a bit too narrow and offset, kind of Jag-stangey, or is that just me? It might be the lack of gubbins throwing my eye.

I'm thinking it's an old asian copy. It looks like it's pretty old, and I don't think fender ever made any rear mount, pickguard-less jazz basses in that era. That bridge looks really weird too. Something does look slightly off about the body shape too.

The body shape is a bit off. I initially thought that the upper horn was most off, but it's most obvious at the other end of the body.

I forgot to add that if you like it, it can still be worth it to you. Make a project of it and do it up. That it's not a real Fender doesn't mean it's terrible.

Wow does that have enough screw holes in the neck pocket?
Either way, if what you traded was essentially worthless to you, an old bass is always good to have around, brand name or not.

I think that would look really cool in sonic blue, with a pearl pickguard. As other people have mentioned, cheap instruments are sort of worth exactly whatever you want to pay for them.

To repeat what has been said, not a fender, but doesn't mean it is worthless. It could play and sound just as good as an old Fender.
I really like that neck, though. Love maple jazz necks.
