New to the forum! Couple of Jaguar Questions

Hey guys new to the forum and thanks to my new MIM Classic Player Jag HH I'm also new to the wonderful world of shortscale guitars.

I love the jaguar, all of the in-between coil tapped sounds and the feel of the neck and trem are godly.

My one complaint is the switching, i find making quick changes with the two pickup on/off sliders can be difficult.

I was wondering if anyone here knew where I could find a plate like this:

I think this would solve my problems and make this guitar perfet for me.

If I can't find one like this I could either modify a stock one or get one custom made...both of which I'm reluctant to do

Also I had some buzzing issues with the stock bridge so I swapped it for a Gotoh T-O-M, which is better but still buzzes a bit. Does anyone know if it's easy to install a mastery bridge on a guitar with import sized Tuneomatic bushings? Or does anyone have any other bridge reccomendations? Is there any bridge that doesn't buzz at all with a jag tremolo?

anyone have any ideas?

Bridge buzz with a TOM? That's pretty odd. Have you done a good setup job on the bridge? Only reason I can see for a buzz is something being loose. The CP series was kinda designed with the idea of curing these sorts of problems.

As for bridges that won't buzz with a Jag trem... well, there's the classic Jaguar bridge, Mustang bridge... your TOM shouldn't... The classic Jaguar bridge takes a little bit of playing with to get it to work properly, but when properly set up and with a proper string gauge (11s or higher on a Jag, yo), it will not buzz. When I got my '66 Classic Jag the bridge buzzed like a SOB, but switching up the string gauge and doing a proper set up cured it. Alternatively the Mustang bridge (drop in replacement) doesn't have all the adjustability of the standard Jag bridge, so reduces the potential for buzz. A TOM simply shouldn't buzz on ya.


As for the plate, they're available somewhere, but I dunno where, so I'll let someone else point you in the right direction.

dude on offsetguitars.com was making some for a time. not sure what the status of them is, but i too love the 3 way + strangle setup. tbh, my CIJ bridge pickup sucks, so i don't really have to switch a whole lot. :)

post pics of your guitar.

as for the buzzing, with the adjusto-matic, there's not a whole lot of room for buzzing. if it's not in the saddles (which sounds that way since you've replaced the bridge), it's probably just the nature of the beast. i'm sure the CP owners can tell you theirs don't buzz at all, but my '66 RI is a buzz king.

Welcome to Shortscale. Did you get the White or Sunburst CP Jaq HH? I had my heart set on a white one but I ended up finding a deal on a AVRI Jag instead

We need to try to stock pile a few of those if we can find a supplier. Kinda like we did with the Bronco knobs.

I found on the original bridge especially, the saddles would rattle because of the lack of downward pressure. The break angle just isn't sharp enough coming from the tailpiece.

The gotoh is a signifigant improvement but the saddles still rattle from time to time. I've taken the bridge off to check and clean it and it all seems tight and wiggle free.

I've had cheap TOM's do this before on many an import guitar. I didn't expect that when designing this model Fender would make a point of replacing the troublesome old rattling bridge only to skimp out and put a shitty rattling TOM on it. I was considering getting a roller bridge to see if that was any better, although something tells me the rollers might be a source of trouble...

By the way I use .011-.052's on it which I found also helped with overall playability and sustain.

I went for the Olympic White...I've been GASing for a white/tortoise Fender for some time now.

I should be installing a burgundy competition stripe soon, I'll find my camera and take some pics after.

I didn't expect that too, but they did. The Fender CP TOM ist pretty bad gear compared to what they could have done. I had a roller Bridge (Schaller STM something) on my JM and it was pretty nice. No problem.

So, you already have rather fat strings, which should have helped. A buzz stop will help, shimming the neck and bringing the bridge up should also help. Mastery bridge dunno, better ask them, guess they will not fit. You can put a TOM on a standard Jag, but the other way round is more difficult. Mastery Bridge is designed for standard Jag / Jazz I think.

Yeah search the osg classifieds for these plates, or maybe ask google/ebay for custom Jaguar control plate.

Thanks for the help guys! I think I may have found someone that makes custom plates on the OSG forum, we'll see how it pans out.

I was thinking of making a plate out of plastic for the time being, I have a black strat backplate that'll make good fodder for that.

Anyone here done this sort of thing?

Found a guy on OSG forum that makes them, goes by the name of ha-milton. Waiting for his reply with the cost for a couple plates.

Also I scored a GFS roller TOM free from a guy I work with and it solved all my problems. The trem feel improved as well.

Searched for ages on Offset for that link and funnily enough found it a WTB classifieds ad by me in June 2008! Funny how the project I actually joined OS for I ditched and eventually found my way here care of James and Aen! Viva la shortscale!
