NGD: Fender Baja Tele

Post by Freddy V-C »

Look how pretty it is!
► Show Spoiler
After trying out 2 Jags, a Jazzmaster, 4 SGs, a Hagstrom, a Hofner Galaxie and 2 Teles, I have decided that this will be my new weapon of choice. Hardcase also!

Very noice. Love that colour scheme.
Have you tried any of the CV 50's teles?
I wonder how the Baja pickups would compare...

Didn't actually try any of the CV ones, don't think I saw any... the Teles I tried were this and the standard Mexican one.

I love that guitar, it is the only telecaster I would EVER consider buying.

Fuck: another guitar I have to sell but haven't stuck in the Classifieds yet. But anyhow...

Happy new guitar day - try the out of phase pickup position one into an octave fuzz. Loooovely.

Thanks very much guys. Reminds me actually, which is in phase and which is out of phase out of the two middle positions? I can't tell because my ears are apparently retarded, I can just tell that they sound different...

Lovely. I love those. They sound like a perfect tele, and are great to play. They are probably the ultimate tele for me.

Out of phase will be when it sounds thin and crackly or spikey if that makes sense.

You're selling a Baja? Could you not have sold it two months ago when I was plush, rather than now, when I'm decided unplush?

Out of phase is when the S1 button is pushed in and your pickup selector is in position 2 (parallell) or 4 (series)

Mike had a Baja tele for a long time and did the best demo ever on youtube.

I would be jealous, but I am in the final stages of finishing my first "from scratch" guitar project and it happens to be a Baja Tele. I should have it done in the next week or so.

Arr, the position I'm on about is little button pushed down, switch furthest to the neck.

That'll be in series and out of phase, then? I really like the way it gives you series/parallel and phase switching without having silly switches.

Series and out of phase -S1 down and pickup selector in forward most position.
Parallel and out of phase -S1 down and pickup selector in 2nd position (after the bridge setting)

good choice freddie, that's identical to my cherished baja, which incidentally used to belong to sir mike of scale.

Ah-hah, I didn't even notice the crazy switch before, I thought everything was done with the four-way one. This should be fun to play with, even if I do now feel like a bit of an idiot.

There's also a ZVex Wah probe built in under the scratchplate, so if you wave your hand around over it, you get wah sounds.

I'm still looking for a tele (rosewood). I bought a MIM a while back, which was actually real nice, but i took it back due a fault. I tried a CV and didn't like the neck. It just felt plastic to me. I also tried a MIM 60 tele, which i wanted to like, but it didn't speak to me. Perhaps i should try more of them. I want a guitar to be set up well and play nice in the shop. That's what makes me want to buy it.
