Quick question...

Post by Simon »

Right... I've just bought a EHX Holier Grail off Ebay and the previous owner had it modded so that it now uses a CENTRE NEGATIVE 18V power supply rather than the POSITIVE supply that it comes with. They've also stated that they'll chuck in the power adapter tip that they use to change the size of the power jack barrel(?!?!)

So... from what I'm gathering, they're saying that I need to use a 18v centre negative power supply with it, or I can use a 18v centre positive one and then use the adapter that they're going to supply with the pedal.

Does that make sense to anyone? or am I just spouting bollox?! Polarities and volts are completely lost on me so I could do with the advice! :?

Cheers :)

you seem to have it all figured out. I've modded all my 9V Electro Harmonix pedals to use boss negative centre power so I can daisy chain fuck out of them.

Yeah, except I can't daisy chain it with the rest of my pedals as they're all 9v and this is 18v.(I don't think anyway?).. shame really but nevermind. I've been after one of these for yonks so pretty happy to of finally got one for a half-decent price!

I think with power bricks and other power supplies you can get you can get 18V out, which must be why they've changed it.

Blimey, what do you have?? All my 9V EHX pedals came ready to run on negative centre power.

Yeah my holy grail has it but I have to use an adapter for it as I lost the original power supply.

So, it would seem that I have to buy a 18v centre positive power supply then... bummer.

See, thing is I have a Diago but looking at their compatibility list, it says you can't use it with the Holier Grail. Fuck, this is where my knowledge is really hazy when it comes to pedal and stuff. Must do some homework!

Changing the polarity of the power is really easy, you just need to swap the positive and negative wires round on the powerjack.

Just been on Ebay looking for a suitable power supply - can anyone tell me whether this would do the job?

Power Supply

It doesn't look the most reliable, last thing I want is to blow the thing up as soon as it's out of the box!

Just buy a £5 multi adapter with different ends, as you can choose the voltage and polarity simply.

Maplin sell decent ones, just dont buy one of the stupid crazy high power ones. I have both the 1000Ma one which is rubbish and a 300Ma one which is really good.

Oh yeah, now I think about it my Russian Small Stone takes one of those types of power, forgotten about that one. I run it on one of those cheap adapters from Maplins (as mentioned above).
