Gonna be white with a black or red comp stripe. Dual humbuckers and Duo switch on the lower horn. I might ditch the Tele-plate idea and go with a dazbootman bronco guard.

I like the tele-plate, It just needs to be abit closer to the bridge I think.

This, most likely. I like the shape of Bronco pickguards but I don't think it fits. Alas.

I don't like the tele plate, a bronco guard would be totally awesome though, and some p90s or some other pickups not so often found on a mustang.

edit: If I were you I'd want to fit a set of these but in white:

needs to be rear routed with knobs/output jack in normal stang position.

The Bronco pickguard stopping short of the bridge annoyed the hell out of me. This started as a way to "stretch" it back to the bridge but very quickly de/evolved into something resembling a tele-plated idea from way back.

Also photographed it with a Toronado bridge. I don't have a drill press, though, so anything with strings through the body could get messy. Another bridge choice could be a Bullet topmount bridge (link).

I think the tele scratchplate makes it look different while still fitting in with the body shape, but at the end of the day it's your project.

The only problem is the tele control plate, it just doesn't look quite right to me.

Am excite to see what you do with it.

Might be the Tele control plate in combo with the Kahler. Maybe look better with a Tele bridge, or a Jazzy trem, or a Tune O Matic, or whooo knows. Bigsby.

edit again... it might be too far back on the the guitar.

What about like this? Kind of a tele deluxe style guard. The control plate is really just an extra pain in the arse, one piece guards are better IMO because you don't have to fiddle with how to route the wires.

Is the Kahler already mounted? If so I'd just leave it on.

Route this bitch for some WRHBs(or MFD in the neck and a bucker in the bridge, that'd be a killer combo) and rock the fuck out :twisted:

Looks kind of neat though. Reshaped the pickguard a bit, moved the plate forwards a ways. Maybe I'll tackle this sort of thing when I have more practice and better tools.

Wow so the Bronco pickguard is a good 1/4 inch shorter than the Mustang's from neck pocket to bridge pocket(?). I didn't know there was such a difference in size between the Mustang and Bronco trems.

Does anybody know anything about this guitar? I'm willing to bet it was built or owned by somebody here at some point.

White button tuners, fiesta (?) red / orange paint and matching headstock, dual slanted single coils, single toggle switch, Toronado (through body?) six saddle bridge... that right there is probably the coolest looking late 70s era Musicmaster I've ever seen. :shock:

And yeah, I'd guess that the pickguard was custom cut. The bridge pickup is too cleanly cut to be a typical DIY job, plus, it's cut "longer" and fits to the bridge better / closer than a stock guard does. The Toronado bridge MIGHT be a bit bigger than a standard Musicmaster bridge, but IIRC, they're pretty darned close in terms of baseplate size - if not identical.
