Seems even more out of reach at the moment considering my teenage income.
Maybe one day... maybe.
I had the opportunity to buy one of these in the early/mid 90's for $600 Canadian dollars (about $450 US at the time). I turned it down because it had been spray painted white, and I bought an Aria Pro II instead.
I've been kicking myself for years over that total lapse of judgement!
And it gets worse for lefties trying to buy vintage guitars...all the more rare, all the more expensive...
I would love but am resigned to never owning an early/mid sixties custom colour Strat or Tele and probably never owning a similar Jag or Jazzy.
Ehhh....put me in the Rickenbacker 4003 camp...a fireglo one. Since I was a kid, my dream collection consisted of a jetglo 330 and a jetglo 4003, but now that I already have a black one I want something different. Since then I acquired so many different guitars and I still have a couple (Ovation tornado, hagstrom viking) that I don't want to let go of in order to justify it. Part of me thinks that when I move out and inevitably downsize, I might suck it up and sell some guitars and my bass and buy one with some of the money.
Other than that I've already acquired my "out of reach" guitar, the jetglo Rickenbacker 330. Everything else is within reach if I really wanted it, but definitely not justifiable (wouldn't use it enough, and don't have the room or money to own "one of everything") . I don't lust after $5000 vintage or boutique guitars.
Doog wrote:"And every day after high school, the young Kurt would sit down with his soldering iron and oscilloscope, to work on what come to be known as the Boss DS-1, the world's first guitar distortion pedal."
I saw one in music ground last week.
Mines probably an early 60's jazzmaster. I played a car 67 jag in vintage and rare last week and that wasn't far from a perfect instrument.
64-66 Mustang in white / red tort (maaaaybe some day when I get a decent job again ...)
early 70s Fender Mustang Bass
57-63 Jazzmaster in whatever fancy custom colour
a Telemaster with fat body and cutting sound
Gibson Les Paul Junior (also old, preferrably)
Gretsch White Falcon
I'd say an Antonio de Torres, but that's a bit extreme ... more reasonably, any Manuel Reyes or any good Conde Hermanos is pretty much out of reach ...
A Gibson ES-125TC is borderline ...
