It finally arrived!

It's a little crackly... not sure if there's an issue, or if it's just one of the cables along the way. I'll have to play around with it more.

Just fired up my iRig for the first time...

I'm impressed! The vast vast majority of sounds are really nice and it's pretty much the perfect practice tool

The octaver didn't seem to track very well at all for me, even on the neck pick up... and I'm not a fan of the crunch channel on the amp. The overdrive/distortion/fuzz fx boxes more than make up for that though, definitely usable dirt.

The delay pedal even self-oscillates to an extent.

I'd love to see a 30-second looper on it with the ability to save to iPod... maybe a chord/scale library too.

Chuffed with it though. Would recommend.

I've been dicking around with this for the past week or so and it's pretty awesome. I realize that it's not going to sound 100% like the amps it's trying to model, but it does a descent job considering I'm playing my guitar through my phone....brilliant! Every chance I get I've been showing this thing to my friends and they've all been blown away.
My one gripe though is that it doesn't display the phones battery life.

Thanks for the suggestions and thoughts on iRig. We've updated the Free and LE versions to 1.0.2 to fix an issue some folks were having with add-on gear not showing up. Please update ASAP if using either of these versions.

Also, we've launched an iRig summer contest so if you'd like to win one of 10 prizes (including StompIO, AmpliTube 3, and more) take a look at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irigtoday

Thanks!

I would bet there could be some money to be made if there was a case that would support the phone and iRig adapter. And maybe it could be securely clipped to a guitar strap?

Ordered one for my friend for his birthday from Dawson's - the only place that looked like they had a couple in stock. Unfortunately, the website was a bit out and they didn't have any either.
So waiting for their delivery - which came at the end of last weekend, they only got 50 and there were at least 50 people ahead of my order! These things are popular!!!
Am hoping it doesn't take another 3 weeks for the next delivery!

We've been working on ideas like this. We did anticipate great demand for the unit (kind of referencing other posts - so there should be more on the way to the dealers that keep ordering them!) but some accessory ideas were gathered through the real world use of the iRig by all of you out there so we're listening! I will keep you posted if we create something, or if some entrepreneurial spirit/company releases something.

I know it doesn't record, but with the os4 having multitasking, can i record something i'm playing?

i'm thinking of geting a ipod touch 8gb, and if i could record guitar with it it would me amazing. Also, has anyone connected the output to a mic in in a lap top? does it sound decent?

Did I see an ad for a Peavey app and interface that was awfully similar to the iRig/Amplitube?

EDIT: YUP

They even relic'd the paint on the stomp boxes. It says "track recording", I'm guessing that's not multitrack.

I’ve had my iRig for a month or so now and I’m quite impressed with it. The default amp sounds like those really cheap Marshall transistor amps that I’ve never been able to get a bright enough sound out of, but the Twin-esque add-on is pretty close to the sound I like.

I don’t like the fact that when you launch the app it doesn’t remember what amp you were last using, and the fact that it doesn’t work with the iPhone 4 Bumpers (but I could get one of those adapters they made for the original iPhone’s recessed headphone jack).

I downloaded the free version of AmpKit today, which seems a little cleaner, interface-wise, and has the ability to record. Well worth a look.

Question: am I going to kill my stupidly expensive iPhone by running a delay pedal into it?

Yeah, but unless it's a stereo amp, you have to split the output channels and connect the left chan to the amp input.

As long as you're not hoping to use any stereo effects from the app, a mono cable into a mono amp will work fine, you won't need to split anything.

It may be a lower output and impedance then a standard guitar signal, though.

edit: I just realised that's one of those Paper Jamz amps..uhm.. does it take a standard 1/4" lead or did I just fail to notice the joke here?

Yeah, I'm loving the Twin style amp emulation... I really with I could get the AC30 to sound right for what I want thought :P
Kinda sucks that it doesn't remember "last used settings", but you can easily add your current setting to the Presets for quick activation.

Current settings -
--- Clean amp - Vol cranked, Bass 7, Mid 5, Treble 5, Presence 4, Reverb 7, Trem off
--- Overdrive (normally off), Drive 6.7, Level 8, Tone 4.5
--- Phaser (normally off) 3.2
--- Delay (normally off) Delay 360, Feedback 7, Level 6.2

Sucks that it doesn't work with the bumper... I'll have to look into that when my bumper arrives :P

I don't think you'll kill it by putting delay into it... why would it? An audio input is an audio input... the delay shouldn't boost the signal much.

It takes a mini plug but I have an adaptor for 1/4" lead.
