So a 70s Mustang popped up on my local craigslist tonight, Sunburst, Blackguard, White tipped Klusons
Heres the bad parts. Its had a Bigsby attached at one point so theres several holes in the body, it also has a black plastic/graphite nut which leaves me to believe someones did an route on the insides.
Not worth picking up? Its listed for $900 which is certainly cheaper than a new reissue [still confuses the fuck out of me] but it is beat up and probably more the be told. I'd love to have a mustang some day and i certainly wouldn't mind a 70s one either. Lake Placid Blue or oly white or something....

I know there are a few other Tulsa shortscalers around that might be interested, i'm thinking $600 and a case of beer would take it. [now if only I had $600!]
well, it's not worth picking up for $900. it is cool though. I would say for a guitar like this, 6 is pretty much top dollar, 5 is a fair price, less than that would be like an actual deal.
why does the nut make you think it's been routed? maybe they just... replaced the nut? a lot of these old guitars have fucked up nuts that need to be replaced. and a graphite nut would be nice on a mustang, since it has infamous tuning issues originating from trem use.
those holes aren't from any bigsby I've ever seen. looks like he had some sort of crackstang trem stabilizer setup.
Given the condition, production period, finish and concerns about originality, 900 is way off. 600 should be maximum in a local deal. But still, it's a beautiful guitar. Those 70s sunburst stangs have something about them ... a dark vibe of danger and evil, lol.

if it was mine and I'd sell it locally I would try to get 750 € for it. That's even a little more than 900 $. I would go no lower than 600 €. But this is Germany, and that guitar is not here where old but not vintage or collectable Fenders are that expensive ... maybe 800-900 would be ok if it was all original and without holes.
My guess is it's lost 90% of its vintage value. Here in the US market anyway. Last year I bought a refinished but otherwise all original '65 in very good condition for $875.00 USD. If it were the original finish, it would have been worth about $1500.00 though they are being offered for alot more than that these days.
I agree with others, $400 to $500 maybe, but $600 seems way more than it's worth.
